Emily Haavik – “Please Don’t Go”
Mark Lindquist turned me on to this song by UMD student Emily Haavik. When I went to her MySpace to listen, I saw “1 plays” on the song counter. So Mark must have been #1. I’m #2. Check it out. I dig it.
(Note: The original MySpace embed no longer exists; the SoundCloud embed replaced it in an edit to this post.)

I did like the song. Can’t remember what it reminded me of but I’m thinking maybe Kate Bush? This song is just yearning for a review. Kind of like the yearning in the vocal.
I also enjoyed the novelty of logging into myspace in the first time in like 2 years. That’s about how long its been. I had to check dates to be sure, it seems more like an eternity. Technological time has a different feel, doesn’t it?
Thanks for posting this, Paul! Emily is a friend and fellow student of mine. She also writes for Lake Voice on top of being a great singer/songwriter. Glad to see the young talent in town getting some notice.
I wasn’t into the song at first but I let it play out and I liked it. Maybe it’s the fact that it’s a college student from Duluth, or just Minnesota in general, but it sounds good and I approve.
You guys are minimalists huh? I found a Kate Bush album at Thriftymart once called ‘The KIck Inside,’ the cover was an inviting crotch shot, leg warmers, big hair, very sensual in an 80’s way. Then I realized David Gilmour, author of such classics as ‘Fat Olde Sun,’ produced it. He was probably doing a little more than ‘producing’ though… That was some crazy shit, it was like Alice on Helium and Meth, rides a Pegasus. The album cover wasn’t anywhere close to the content, what a sleeper.
Yep. She’s actually one of the voices behind this audio piece.
Weird!
I just put on Ten Years After/A Space in time. I’d Love to Change the World came on, right when I was watching this Bush and Gilmore clip, it’s in the same key. Plays perfect alongside.
I like this song!
I like it! Thanks, Paul for posting this. It’s good to hear what others in Duluth are doing … especially when it’s good.
Hey, cool! Thanks everybody!
Loved it!
