Other Duluth PhD students?
I’m looking to form a PhD student group for those who would like to get together as a social support network. I’ve been living in Duluth for awhile after completing coursework and I’m struggling to stay on track since I’m so far away from peers and professors. Is anyone else experiencing the same thing? I’m thinking of having the group meet once a week or every other week–depending on schedules–and providing feedback on what we all write during the intervening time. I hope there’s at least one other person in Duluth who’s going through the same thing! Please contact me!
I’m done with my PhD (thank god!), but did the same for years. I used an online writing group https://academicladder.com/
That I did have to pay for (but not very much). It helped me focus myself.
I also used the abdmoms yahoo group. (Not sure if you’re a mom or not.)
I am having the (almost) same issue but on a Masters level
I can testify that it can be done, although I didn’t do it very well.
I have paid my dues by degrees….ha! (YES it is worth it). I would be glad to be of help to anybody in the midst of the anguish. Sometimes it is just good to bounce ideas off someone, or be able to meet for a support session over a cup of coffee to prove to yourself you are not going crazy. It’s good to hear from folks who have reached the pinnacle and made it to the other side. Yay! I’m curious though–did you all decide to pursue careers in academia? Academics for me–found my true calling after 40 and have loved it ever since.
