Cars Sliding Down Duluth Avenues: 2014 Edition
This video is from the Nov. 10 snow/ice storm. It’s not as good as the one from 2003, but still … everyone loves a good car-sliding montage.
The Figures
Happy Homegrown Duluth! I had to send a contribution from afar. I wanted to premiere my first short film on PDD. It’s a spooky little thing filmed in Duluth during a brief visit I made in 2014. The soundtrack is by myself and Eric Lyman, we record as Pale Wall. This film may be best viewed around 3 a.m. with a warm blanket. Cheers.

Highlight reel of sights and sounds from extreme winter 2014.
Painting in the BWCA
Duluth artist Ken Marunowski describes the process of making a wilderness landscape painting.
Ice Dam Cam
The shovel cam has been repurposed into the ice dam cam. It’s not nearly as fun as the shovel cam, it’s frustratingly hard to use, depressing and doesn’t get much done.
Old Seven Bridges Road sled hill
I remember fondly tubing down a hill on Seven Bridges Road. You used to be able to rent tubes from the chalet. They have a nice lighted trail system for cross-country skiing at Lester Park. What would be needed to get the sled hill going again?
Started off like it was going to be something
For about four hours there were blizzard conditions, but then the whole thing died out. It leaves us wondering whether this storm was worth naming or not.
Gotta getcha shovel if ya wanta go ta work
After finally getting a decent snowstorm, I wanted to have a little fun with the timelapse app. I put my iPhone 4 on my shovel handle with a gorilla pod. It flopped around too much, so I was only able to do a short time lapse.

Question about icy intersection video
Can any one answer this?
Hello Carla,
We’re producing a television series for The Weather Channel called, “Weather Caught on Camera.” I’ve found this video on YouTube (see link below), which appears to have been filmed right near your cafe/restaurant – at the intersection of N. 19th Ave. E. & E. Eighth St. We’re very interested in licensing this video for use in our show, but first I have to track down who filmed it. (more…)
Duluth in Winter on a Fixie
This YouTube video has gotten a decent amount of traffic recently. Check out the icy hills of Duluth from the saddle of a fixed-gear bicycle.

Boxing Day 2009 Sledding Conditions: Horrible!
Today’s report is from Lincoln Park. It was well packed down yesterday, and frozen rock-hard today. So, the speed on the way down is totally out of control, and the ride is full of solid bumps that threaten to permanently damage one’s sphincter ani externus muscle. (more…)
