Excited for Beargrease 2010?

Don’t forget to watch one of the Northland’s most amazing tributes to our cultural heritage (in my opinion, at least): The John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon!
The “Meet the Mushers” event starts at noon, the race starts at 1 p.m. It is really a majestic sight. If you’ve never seen a sled dog race, I’d put it at the top of your to-do list for tomorrow!

Today my boyfriend and I had our own sled dog adventure on the Munger Trail! Makes the winter more tolerable, that’s for sure.

I’m excited for the Beargrease and have all the needed supplies ready to go.
Go August! The one who’s not my son. The female August. Or go August’s husband! (again not my son’s husband). I think they trade-off each year.
Purple, they are each running teams in the 1/2 this year. Don (August’s husband) won the 1/2 last year FWIW
cool! Thanks Edgeways! I guess I did not know there was a half. I’m glad that they are both in the running! What’s FWIW?
The start is cool, but I think watching the mushers finish at Billy’s is even better. It’s a little more low-key. Keep tabs on the mushers’ progress on the race Web site, and then head to Billy’s on Wednesday about the time the first ones are due in.
It’s a neat scene – the ice-coated mushers, still-excited dogs, a few dozen hearty, cheering fans, media interviews, big bonfire going….
FWIW: For What It’s Worth 🙂
This is one of my favorite things to do in Duluth. The bays, barks and howls of hundreds of dogs gives you goose bumps of excitement.
I love the “thud-thud-thud” of chopper/mitten applause at the starting gate.
While watching the teams at the start line or finish (and I do prefer the finish over the start) is nice, seeing some of the action out on the trail is by far the best way to go. Take an afternoon off and head up to Sawbill or out to a remote road crossing near Finland…
