Stewart Creek Railroad Bridge on DWP Trail in Duluth
What’s your favorite rickety old bridge in Duluth? Mine is called “Ass Bridge.” At least, that’s what I call it, for reasons that will become obvious if you read on. It’s an old railroad bridge over Stewart Creek in western Duluth. The northeastern side of the bridge is in the Riverside neighborhood, the southwestern side is in the Smithville neighborhood. Any Jacko nights tonight?
Anyone hear of Michael Jackson events (music) in town, or was it all spontaneous last night?
Anyone know anything about this?
There’s an ad in today’s paper about a “salvage stone sale” this weekend on Park Point, at 3101 Minnesota Ave.
The ad refers to a Web site. The site says:
“Own a piece of history: Brownstone, limestone, slate, marble, granite… An incredible collection of historic building elements including benches, capitals, finials, etc.”
Does anyone know if someone is pulling apart an old house out there? Is this someone’s collection of garden decorations? Just a vacant lot these sellers had access to? Are these things from old buildings here in Duluth?
Stories from Emerson School Apartments
The “Beloved Character” thread made me curious about people’s experiences at Emerson School. Any stories?
(+trivia question: What best-selling author went to school at Emerson as a boy?)

WCCO Reports: Favre will be at Vikings’ training camp
I know. I know. We have heard so much about nothing about this that, who cares? Well this is finally news that seems pretty legit coming from WCCO.
Wonder if Cory Hollenhorst thought Favre would ever actually be a Viking when he doctored up this SI cover as a joke? According to WCCO’s Mark Rosen it seems Favre will be a Viking and the equipment manager already ordered the Purple #4.
Well I guess the good news is we will not throw a 3-yard dump off to the fullback on a 3rd-and-8 with Favre at the helm. Can you say Super Bowl?
Guys and Dolls Jr. update
I posted before about Guys and Dolls Jr. at the Duluth Playhouse, so I want to pass along the info. that the Saturday 1 p.m. show has been canceled because of slow ticket sales. The show will go on Thursday and Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at 4 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.
I heard some people speculate that parents might think this isn’t a show that kids would like, but the “Jr.” versions of Broadway shows are adapted for children to perform and see. It’s cute, funny and musical. Just not at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Green Brief 7
“Mousavi and Khatami’s offices have told their supporters to use a different tactic to get their demands by going to the bazaars with their families everyday starting Tuesday at 9 and not buy anything at all. If anyone is to ask them, they’re to say they’re there to shop.”

new Mars Volta album

Their new single, “Since We’ve Been Wrong,” sounds so Low-esque. Are the Angelenos acquainted with the Sparhawk family or is it just affinity?
