PDD Quiz: Back to School

Hit the books for this edition of the PDD Quiz, which tests your knowledge of Duluth school buildings that have been adaptively reused as dwellings. For more information on historic Duluth schools, check out this PDD post and the Minnesota Digital Library, both of which were invaluable resources for this quiz.

Results

#1. Located at 1028 W. Third St. in Duluth, this school opened in 1892 and closed in 1982.

#2. This building served as a school between 1893 and 1971; it is located at 215 N. First Ave. E. in Duluth.

The building, now known as Zenith DCHS, opened as an apartment building in 2024.

#3. Despite numerous remodels and additions, remnants of this school’s 1889 building still exist. Located at 2427 W. Fourth St. in Duluth, it operated as a school between 1889 and 2011.

#4. This school operated at 101 N. 56th Ave. W. in Duluth from 1895 until 1982.

#5. Now an artists’ co-op, this building at 315 N. Lake Ave. was a school between 1911 and 1992.

#6. This 1890 Richardsonian Romanesque building at 1802 E. Second St. served as a school until the 1970s.

#7. Located at 6715 Redruth St., this school operated from 1910 until 1977.

#8. This school at 510 N. 40th Ave. W. operated from 1911 until 1993.

#9. Built in 1894 and closed in 1982, this school building at 916 E. Third St. now contains a child care center as well as apartments.

#10. This school at 1750 Kenwood Ave. opened as a public school in 1925; it closed in 2011 as a charter school.
