Can we get a tag here indicating that UMD does not, to the best of my knowledge, have an “observatory” and that this is fiction?

The post is so tagged, and UMD does have an observatory which I have linked to, so it is both fiction and nonfiction.

    So true.

I’ve worked at UMD for 15 years and never once set foot in an observatory, because it’s been closed for decades.

A Planetarium is not an Observatory, in case that’s the confusion.

@ David Beard: You asked for a tag indicating the post was fiction; it was already tagged as “hoaxes, fake news, satire,” showing yourself to be an incautious reader. The link I embedded in my post is the same one you humorlessly linked to in your second comment as you pursued the established matter of the fictionality of the subject (best left hinted at or winked at; the hard existence of the Observatory being the least interesting facet; the quasi-existence of the Observatory being the most interesting). You might as well object I have no means to transmit a signal that could be intercepted by the Observatory, or that there is no alien life. “In case that’s (your) confusion,” 15 years at UMD notwithstanding.
