I’ve Missed the Snow This Year
Here’s a photo from last year, and a poem I wrote as I meditated on the picture.
How could you
not love the wingprints
of eagles
in the snowy field
beyond your barn
as they descend to catch
a morning
meal of meadow
vole
in sharp talons
made
for two things
only;
gripping the branch
and snatching
the prey
from its short-sighted
life?

I think I’m willing to accept the tag of “Sappy stuff.” At least it’s better than “Total bullshit”!
It’s a gorgeous poem. Thanks.
I’m waiting for someone to use that category for a post about tapping maple trees.
I want to snowshoe into this photo/poem and live here. Thanks for posting it.
The lack of snow is total bullshit. It’s killing me softly. And I’m glad someone had the courage to do a thread about it. And for all you santorum out there who don’t believe in manmade global warming, do you believe in petrochemicals? So bring your own bags to the grocery store, ride a bike, communicate with the snow gods by doing the snow dance where you spin mercilessly from twenty feet by your skewered nipples, then pass out from pain and exhaustion, and maybe it will snow again.
@ Herzog.. Maybe a little far there, Pal? Perhaps taking advantage of this beautiful weather and GOING OUTSIDE will do you some good!
Nice poem.
Great poem — and the lack of snow has been affecting me too — I miss it and feel I need to have it around before I am ready for spring…I moved here for more snow. I know I can drive to find it–but it’s better at home.
Moose94, sunshine and vitamin C might work for you, but I need snow, and indeed, I’ve taken what I could get, contrary to your foul and egregious misuderstatements that I have not been outside. Au Contrere Mo Frere. I’ve been the only one skiing MoLester every time it has snowed, thank everyone else for not doing so, that I could place fresh tracks, been outside for every drop of sun, and to show you my dedication to the sun gods for which you too are so worshipful, will be booking a trip straight through to Palenque, to demonstrate my sun-love. But F-Star is right, I too moved here for the snow, well, mainly because I had to stay in MN, and this seemed my least worst choice at the time, but that too shall be amended further north, where my chances of being dicked by global warming next winter, or by sex slave traders, will become slighter. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go do a J, and see if the DPD has put that 50 cal up for auction yet. Skate skiing rules!
It looks as though we shall have our reprieve. I for one am anticipating at least two days of commute on snowshoe from the J5B through Chester to the shop at the bottom of the hill after putting Little Miss on the bus and the Hat Buddy at preschool via sled.
