Comments edited/deleted

Since when, and why, do those posting on PDD have the ability to modify and/or delete comments that are not remotely offensive, inaccurate, etc.?

I _think_ the ability has always been there, even with the old system. It just seems to be epidemic right now. The “Twitterpated” poster has aggressively deleted every comment.. high dickatude quotient.

Edgeways is right. The ability has always been there throughout the history of PDD, but no one has used it until recently. (Or at least, those who used it did not use it in any questionable or offensive way.) I suspect it has something to do with the recent influx of members who are not actively engaged in the PDD community, but are using it to make a buck.

If you do not want comments on your post, the more honest route would be to disable comments altogether.

yesterday, I deleted tasteless and pointless slams against the kids in my post about organic rap. The commenter was rude and offensive to me, the creator of the thread. If he had slammed me, I would have been more than happy to leave the rude mis-interpretations there because I’m totally capable of being rude and mis-interpreting things but this guy attacked some kids who were just doing something cool, advocating for a healthy diet. I think that it’s great I had the chance to spare these kids from some idiot’s mean spirited blather. I think the policy page sums it all up rather well.

baci, fwiw I wasn’t including your comment removal in my comment, that seemed a somewhat reasonable removal.

  5. Barrett on April 7, 2009 at 7:16 am

Baci’s removal (I assume, since I didn’t see the comments in question) is what this feature is intended for.

Moderation is okay. Posting to an open blog to try to make a buck is okay (if it’s not, then put it in the policies and make it verbose).

This whole Danny Duluth thing was just a slap in the face. Why does PDD let such a blatantly disrespectful person post something like that. I expect people to be nice, creating mean-spirited and baseless comments about someone that is RUNNING this blog has gone too far.

p.s. Craigslist is a piece of shit right now. I’d be really interested if PDD did a classified section that was moderated and watched.

WHAT THE HELL? What do I have to do with this whole debate?

  8. samh on April 7, 2009 at 8:38 am

    Shut up, fascists.

  9. samh on April 7, 2009 at 8:38 am

Feel free to delete that last comment as it was placed purely for ironic value ; )

  10. Danny on April 7, 2009 at 8:43 am

    He he. That was funny.

  11. edgeways on April 7, 2009 at 8:45 am

oh for crying out loud Danny, your whole post was aimed at mocking someone that most of us know, and one of the co-founders of pdd, you should actually be pretty friggen grateful they haven’t moderated you completely off the site, there are plenty of places that would. I don’t think anyone is actually accusing you of editing the comments in your post, we know you like as much turmoil as possible and are pretty above board about it.

    BAWWWWWWW

  13. Danny on April 7, 2009 at 8:49 am

There are plenty of comments in that thread eluding to comments being edited there (and in fact they were, by one of the moderators apparently).

As for the show itself…did you even listen? I mocked myself a helluva lot more than I mocked the almighty Starfire. That was sort of the point (as it almost always is on DDD).

    Lighten the hell up.

Seems to me we could use some Zen…Identity that is!

If someone, anyone, can ask Alan to email (or call me) with his blessing, I will start posting this stuff.

    Thanks,

no, I did not listen to the show, I frankly am not interested in your show, nothing you have posted has inspired to want to listen. I wasn’t talking about your show, you can mock yourself, Starfire, or whatever else in that forum and I wouldn’t care, hell, call me a two assed blue footed boobie on your show and it frankly won’t make me miss a beat, that is _your_ gig I want nothing to do with it.

I was talking about your post, where you, with little pretext, in a public forum wrote some pretty dick-ish stuff. If you fling poo, expect it to come back at you. Now get this, no one in this post said anything about you editing the comments in your post. If you are concerned about comments disappearing in your post talk to the moderators, and if they are not completely sick of your behavior perhaps you can get it resolved.

  16. Danny on April 7, 2009 at 10:44 am

The post was the standard show description. I copied and pasted it from my show site. The title of the episode(which I assume is what you are refering to)was a throw-away line from the show. I often title the episodes after I record and name them after a line in the actual episode. I added the opening paragraph here, but I highly doubt that you found any of that particularily “dick-ish”.

As for comments disappearing, I’m not concerned or anything. But there were a few things that would lead me (as the poster) to think that it’s possible that the allusion was that I might be deleting comments from it. Examples: “Is Danny editing the comments?” and “Ahhh, Moderation finally comes to PDD.”.

So there you go. Thank for not listening.

What was that thing that some of you advised when I first started lurking around here …

“Don’t feed the trolls?” Something like that, maybe? I can’t always fight the urge, but whenever I do I’m always glad that I did.

  19. El Diablo on April 7, 2009 at 11:34 am

Danny, you seem to be getting the PDD people riled up over this. You sir are a great patriot of free speech and the freedom to say what you think is important. God Bless you Danny. God Bless you for all your great work with your podcast. Humor and news are your stong point. Bravo! Bravo! Danny, you are a giant among men! Don’t fear these people! Be stong willed and willing to tackle the golden idols these people worship.

Danny and Craig should be banned. Period. Their only goal is to mess with people and cause trouble. Danny has even said as much. Why are these two fools being allowed to ruin this site?

  21. chris m on April 7, 2009 at 12:03 pm

    you kids…

  22. El Diablo on April 7, 2009 at 12:03 pm

The Emperor won’t be pleased with you. My brother is coming with many fremen warriors!

  23. Danny on April 7, 2009 at 12:23 pm

    I said that?

  24. Dan E. on April 7, 2009 at 1:20 pm

    Crab People…I’m just sayin’…

  25. Admackbar on April 7, 2009 at 1:57 pm

    What about Crab People?!

  26. Chris on April 7, 2009 at 2:21 pm

Nell Carter brings up a humorous point regarding banning people. A few weeks ago I made the mistake of letting Craig get under my skin. I said a few things that probably weren’t too nice, but not the nastiest thing Ive seen on here by any means. Well the post got deleted because one of the moderators said it had gotten out of hand. Which is fine and is certainly his prerogative. The weird part was that right after that I was no longer allowed to post on this site. Via both my computer and phone. I would submit something and it would tell me to, “slow down you’re posting to fast.” I emailed one of the mods and he assured me I wasn’t banned. Within an hour everything was back to normal. Although for one post I did go by the name Paco and got one by on the Man.

  27. Danny on April 7, 2009 at 2:27 pm

“Nell Carter brings up a humorous point”

That is bumper sticker material right there.

  28. sparhawk on April 7, 2009 at 2:37 pm

    zen identity. do it, man!

  29. Chris on April 7, 2009 at 2:39 pm

I could have phrased that better. What I meant was that Nell Carter makes me think of a humorous(to me anyway) anecdote.

    We can’t go on
    Pretending day by day
That someone, somewhere will soon make a change
We are all a part of
the Twin Ports great big family
And the truth, you know love is all we need

    (Everybody)
    We are Duluth
    We are Superior
We are the ones who make a brighter day
    So let’s start giving
    There’s a choice we’re making
    We’re saving our own lives
    It’s true we’ll make a better day
    Just you and me
