Where is the Statue of Liberty?
Yes, it was a bit cheesy, but my kid loved to visit her down at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center. After all, the supposed distant relative of the sculptor of the original Lady Liberty donated the replica to Duluth in honor of its children.
This is what I know …
The base of the statue needed substantial work. The statue is in city storage. The family of the donator in 1976 was asked if they wanted it back. They declined.
I’m getting a Leif Erikson Park Viking ship vibe. We may never see her again.
I’ll take it!

Interesting question. I do see that the land on which she stood is not designed as an official City park; it is part of the DECC owned land (which is publicly owned, but it’s more complicated that just “park land.”) It’s interesting to me that most people would have considered that a park, where the Ordean Plaza just up the hill along Fifth Avenue West was not generally recognized as a park. It very clearly was part of the public land along the Fifth Avenue Plaza championed by the Marshall sisters, and recently sold by the city to Titanium Partners.
I think the best answer to your question would come from DECC leadership, not city leadership at this point.
I’ve maintained a virtual geocache for the past 20+ years with this statue as the goal so I am a little sad it has been removed (and seemingly won’t be replaced). Hopefully it gets reinstalled somewhere else at least.
