SUMMARY:Hands Across the Bong Bridge
DESCRIPTION:They are calling it the “greatest bridge brigade ever.” Rise Up Superior\, Good Trouble Indivisible\, Zenith City Indivisible\, Duluth Indivisible and Duluth 50501 are joining forces on Flag Day for Hands Across the Bong Bridge. \nParticipants are assembling on either side of the Richard I. Bong Memorial Bridge between Superior and Duluth to march with signs and flags across the bridge on the protected pedestrian/bike path. Somewhere near the middle\, the group will join hands (and hearts and minds) in a demonstration of unity for democracy\, for justice and for community.  \nThe Bong Bridge is 2.2 miles long. The group we will need about 3\,000 people to be able to truly hold hands across the bridge. This event is set up Duluthians to access the bike/pedestrian path at West Michigan and South 43rd Avenue West. The starting point on the Superior side is at Susquehanna Avenue\, just behind the Quality Inn (46.722970\, -92.125832). \nSign up on Mobilize and follow the website to get information on the event\, parking\, the after party\, etc. \nExpected Flow of the Event\n– Start assembling at both entrance ways to the bridge at 12:30 p.m.\n– Begin marching toward the middle of the bridge at 1 p.m.\n– Bridge Brigade signs and flags display for about one hour\n– Safely return off the bridge\n– Post-event celebration\n– Paddlers welcome in the water\, too (stay safe) \nRichard I. Bong was a hero (the “Ace of Aces”) in World War II and received the Congressional Medal of Honor. He was born in Superior and raised in Poplar.
