40 Below: The Toughest Race in the World
Duluthian Marius Anderson’s film 40 Below will be the featured film on Friday, Oct. 6 at the 2023 Duluth Superior Film Fest. The film follows entrants in the Arrowhead 135 race in International Falls during the depths of Minnesota winter. It’s one of many Minnesota-made films screened at the fest; the full schedule is on the Duluth Superior Film Fest website.

The Duluth-Superior Film Festival is upon us, and that means it’s time for another premiere from Duluth’s budding film community. Gleahan and the Knaves of Industry, by first-time writer/director Samuel T. Weston, makes its debut Thursday night at 9 p.m. at Teatro Zuccone. As with all of the DSFF screenings, tickets are free. 2018 Duluth Superior Film Festival Trailer
The Duluth Superior Film Festival runs May 30 to June 3 at five Duluth venues — Clyde Iron Works, Zinema 2, Teatro Zuccone, Blacklist Artisan Ales and AICHO — and also the Comet Theater in Cook.
Duluth Superior Film Festival accepting short films for 2018
The 2018 Duluth Superior Film Festival is right around the corner. No official date has been set, but the event typically occurs in early June.
In the meantime, short films are needed. Local and regional shorts of all genres will be considered.

2017 Duluth Superior Film Festival seeking submissions
The Duluth Superior Film Festival is taking a call for entry for all forms of film presentation. No specific parameters. All submissions will be considered. Shorts, features, docs, narratives, animation, experimental. Festival dates are May 31 to June 4.

Volunteers needed for local film festival
The seventh annual Duluth Superior Film Festival delivers film, music and art to the Twin Ports region June 1-5. In its short history, the festival has presented a distinctively imaginative and diverse lineup of international, American independent and regional films.

The Duluth Superior Film Festival needs wheels!
The Duluth Superior Film Festival needs a 12/15/18-passenger vehicle for use during the festival. Every year the fabulous Riki McManus of the Upper Minnesota Film Office takes filmmakers and guests around the area and shows them all the great locations the area has to offer in an effort to get them to come back and shoot their next film here. In the past, we rented the vehicles, or got great help from the Duluth Experience. TDE is booked this year, and some weird liability change has taken all the rentals out of the market. Do you have (I’m looking at you, local bands) or know of anyone who could let us use one of these types of vehicles? We have money! Dates of use would just be a few hours on Friday, June 5 and Saturday, June 6. Please contact richard @ ds-ff.com if you know of anyone who could help. Thank you! Come see some free films!

Duluth Superior Film Festival seeks volunteers
This is a very exciting year for the Duluth Superior Film Festival, as it is our fifth anniversary. We have some excellent films lined up (as usual), and some exciting guests. You might have read about Patty Duke’s planned attendance for our screening of You’ll Like My Mother, which was filmed in Duluth in 1972, as well as a return of Mackenzie Astin (Iron Will and Patty Duke’s son), who is attending this year as a juror. This is a big year for us, and because we value our volunteers tremendously and will be needing all hands on deck, we are excited to be able to provide lifetime film festival passes (and sweet access to special events) as a thank you to this year’s volunteers. We’ll also provide you with a T-shirt. What we ask in return is some of your time, and to pass along our request for volunteers.

I was able to attend a recent Duluth-Superior Film Festival party. At the risk of turning PDD into a celebrity gossip sheet — can you spot the local arts personalities?
Does Crispin Glover’s film It is Fine! Everything is Fine romanticize the rape and torture of women?
In the wake of the screening of Crispin Glover’s film, “It is Fine! Everything is Fine,” as part of the Duluth/Superior Film Festival last weekend – a film that romanticizes a man’s explicit sexual fantasies of the rape and torture of women – I have some questions for progressive Duluthians who were there and for our community as a whole.

DuSu Film Festival is a stellar event
I don’t think I can put enough likes on the page to do it justice. Just a note to check out some of the films that Richard Hansen and the Duluth Superior Film Festival folks have brought to us this year. Very much in line with our North Country interests and at reasonable price for all access passes — $20. Great films, great music, great art and good times. A longer version of my opinion here.
Brainerd on Film
May I please direct your attention to two quite excellent films playing this weekend at the Duluth-Superior Film Festival (previously known as Sound Unseen International Duluth) — Marvin Seth Stanley and The Hole Story. Both were filmed in the Brainerd area and both are quite funny. You’d be hard pressed to find a better regional double feature. (more…)

The Duluth Superior Film Festival is seeking submissions from local filmmakers and artists working in video or digital media. The festival is a local celebration of regional and independent film, as well as local music and arts.
