Flashback to the big storm on Oct. 10: Brent Eliason of Ease Drones shot this aerial video as surfers took advantage of the 50 m.p.h. wind gusts at Stoney Point on Lake Superior.
First Snow 2018
I just moved to Duluth this past summer and have been busy getting to know the area and exploring all Duluth has to offer. I spent the past eight years on the beaches of North Carolina and have been anxiously awaiting the snow to fall! My son and I have been flying and racing drones as a hobby for a number of years, and I’ve transitioned into a professional videographer. Hope you enjoy the video we shot over the weekend!

Flooding in Northern MN and WI
We went up and shot a compilation of the flooding in northern Minnesota and Wisconsin. The rivers were RAGING! It was so loud, you couldn't hear the drones 10 feet away from you. What amazing sights to behold though - the St. Louis River and Thompson Reservoir were busting at the banks to the point that even the large inlet to Lake Superior was flooding, and creating some amazing rapids!

Minnesota Nice Imaging of Bloomington captured these images following last week’s flooding in northern Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Beauty in the Bitter Cold
Timothy Johnson of Whitespace Films was on Lake Superior’s North Shore over Christmas, when the temperature was around -20 °F. “This video shows just some of the beauty that can emerge from, and because of, the cold,” Johnson writes on the YouTube description.

Wisconsin Point Breakwater and Lighthouse
The PDD Drone takes a short flight along the west pierhead entrance to Superior Harbor at Wisconsin Point, cruising above the breakwall to the Wisconsin Point Lighthouse, also known as the Superior Entry Breakwater Lighthouse or South Breakwater Light.
Northern Pacific Ore Dock in Allouez
At Loon’s Foot Landing in Superior’s Allouez neighborhood, near the mouth of the Nemadji River in the Allouez Bay Channel, stands the remains of the Northern Pacific Ore Dock — built from 1912-13; abandoned by 1970. In July, Liftoff Aerials sent the PDD Drone up to have a bird’s-eye view of the old concrete-and-steel structure. (more…)
Caribou Lake Boat Parade 2017
In this drone video Dennis O’Hara captures the annual tradition of the July 4 boat parade on Caribou Lake near Duluth, where decorated boats of all kinds line up and cruise around the lake.

North Country from Above
Brooklyn, N.Y.-based filmmaker and cinematographer Andrew Cagle recently shot this aerial footage in the Duluth area and along the North Shore of Lake Superior. He’s working on a documentary project, but compiled some of his favorite shots for this video, with Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash singing “Girl From the North Country” as the soundbed.
Backyard LED Hockey Rink
The list of oddball Minnesota hockey rinks is growing. In December Liftoff Aerials showed off PDD’s pond hockey rink shaped like the North Star State. Now, Gopher Aerial presents Shawn Carlon’s backyard rink in Maple Grove, which uses LED lights for added nighttime fun.
Manitou River Falls Minnesota North Shore
Here are some shots from the seldom seen Manitou River falls on Lake Superior near Highway 61. There are two main sets of falls between Highway 61 and the lake, the last set drops 40 to 50 feet directly into Lake Superior, making it one of only a few waterfalls that drop directly into Lake Superior.
