Dirty Knobs – “Squid Crow Pro”

Dirty Knobs, a music project of Duluth’s Zac Bentz, part of The Electric Witch and The Surfactants, released the new album Scorcher on Halloween. On Youtube the tracks come with psychedelic visualizers as above for “Squid Crow Pro,” a track I have on repeat. I would loosely characterize the album as a collection of ambient electronica soundscapes, textured and chewy. These tracks are going to get me through winter.

Grant Glad showcases ‘middle ground’ with compilation album

Grant Glad, host of the music podcast Glad You’re Here, is trying to highlight a particular tier of local artists.

“I’ve been trying to find the artists that some people know and other people might not know and try to shine a spotlight on them. And then not have that spotlight be useless because you’re shining it on everybody,” Glad said. (more…)

Cole Pulice and Nat Harvie – “Parrish Blue”

Duluthian Nat Harvie‘s new collab album with Cole Pulice, Strawberry Roan, releases June 21 via the Texas-based Aural Canyon record label.

Cry on Cue – “Sweetheart Like You”

The video for the first release from the fifth album in the Duluth Does Dylan series — Free Wheelin’ Duluth Does Dylan — is by Cry on Cue, featuring Bernie Larsen on vocals and various instruments, Alan Sparhawk on “big guitar” and Erik Koskinen on drums. The video is directed by Larsen and features Cassidy Linder.

Freewheelin’ Duluth Does Dylan will be released by Spinout Records on May 26 during the Duluth Dylan Fest.

Lanue – “Fire in My Mind” (Lyric Video)

Sarah Krueger’s musical project Lanue has a new five-song EP titled Fire in My Mind coming out April 15. The lyric video for the title track was directed by Krueger.

Sacred Heart releases album recorded during lockdown

Sacred Heart Music Center is releasing an album recorded during empty-building, pandemic-lockdown concerts live streamed over its YouTube channel in 2020 and 2021.

A listening party for Live from the Heart: The Sacred Heart Music Center Quarantine Sessions will be held from 4-7 p.m. Sunday, March 20 at Ursa Minor Brewing, 2415 W. Superior St. in Duluth. The free event will feature the first public airing of the album, CDs for sale, drink specials, pizza and more. (more…)

The Brothers Burn Mountain – “Lord of Night”

The Brothers Burn Mountain have recorded a new album at their off-the-grid cabin studio in northern Minnesota. Blue Spruce is slated for release this fall. The single “Lord of Night” features Ryan Young of Trampled by Turtles on fiddle and Colleen Myhre on backing vocals.
