Postcard from a Bird’s Eye View of the West End in Duluth
This postcard of Duluth’s friendly West End was mailed 115 years ago today — Dec. 8, 1910. The recipient was Mrs. Joseph Lindquist of Kerkhoven, Minnesota. The perspective is from the Point of Rocks at West Fourth Street, looking southwest.
The message on the back of the card is particularly difficult to decipher — so much so that part of it might be in a foreign language — but it goes something like this:
Dear Cousin Elida,
Read your card, thanks. So nice to hear from you and that you’re improving. Will srum with to gab honue I see sure. “Borta ar nogbra main herman ar bash” sogue ortspsaked. We are all of good health, thank the Lord. Yes Elida that auto ride to Fargo reminds me of when looking at the card. Greetings from us all. Say lill Joe all frair Trisey all has as rad one dig win. I haven’t just a little snow. Hardly enough for any sleighing yet. Bye bye cousin. — William Huey
