Historic Day at Denfeld
Ten new members were inducted into Denfeld High School’s Hunter Hall of Fame on Saturday. At the end of the ceremony, descendants of Robert E. Denfeld and Walter Hunting were brought to the stage. Although the phrase “Denfeld Hunters” has been around since the 1930s, the Denfeld and Hunting families had never met before. (Photo by Butch Williams)

Sgt. Hamil’s behind-the-back strikeout pitch
httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oP3suTQo_kM
August 3, 2009 | Wheeler Fields, Duluth MN
“Most luckiest” indeed, as Sarge has thrown at least one behind-the-back pitch every game this season without success, knowing eventually he’d land one. The batter seems frozen in disbelief, not even considering taking a swing.

End of Stagecoaches in Duluth
On August 1, 1870, the St. Paul and Lake Superior Stagecoaches ceremoniously quit service with the opening of the Lake Superior and Mississippi Railroad. On this day, the first train arrived in Duluth from St. Paul, a roughly 150-mile trip that took 16 hours.

What about the Current in Duluth??!!
The MPR website recently announced a new expansion of the Current station to St. Peter. Not that I don’t love some of the stations we have around here, but it really makes me feel even further from the cultural scene to not have access to all three MPR stations. As a yearly supporter of MPR it doesn’t seem fair. If there’s anyone out there who agrees, please join me in writing to MPR to let them know how we feel.

Looking for Randy Lee – or equivalent
I’m looking for somebody to provide about 60 minutes of “background” music for an event being held at St. Scholastica on September 17th [I’ll post more on that later]. Need to find a group who can set the vibe. T-57 is busy. Randy Lee was suggested – anybody know how I can get a hold of him or similar alternative? You can email me directly: recovery at css.edu
Tommy, can you hear me?
In honor of the 40th anniversary of the release of The Who’s iconic rock opera Tommy, a group of UW-Superior faculty will be performing the LP. The performance will be the evening of September 3rd on the UW-Superior campus. Singers are still needed. This is your opportunity for fame and fortune on the other side of the Bridge! If you are interested in helping out by singing a few songs, contact Joel Sipress at jsipress@charter.net. Do not let this opportunity to give us your best Roger Daltrey impression pass you by. You may not have another opportunity to sing “Pinball Wizard” in public for another decade.
