State Finances: Federal Taxes Collected vs. Federal Funding by State
According to this, Minnesota ranks #50, meaning we get about $0.50 back in federal funding for every dollar in taxes we pay (using 2007-2009 figures).
This does not make me want to take former Senators Dayton and Coleman out for dinner in downtown Duluth.
It also brings this question to my mind: how much influence do governors have over federal funding? Are governors involved in the discussion of federal funding in any concrete way?

Andrew Sullivan’s blog features a contest called “The View From Your Window” where people submit views, as it were, from their windows, and people have to guess where in the world it is. This week features a view familiar to Duluthians. He quotes my entry but I didn’t win.

Does anyone know of some authentic Korean cuisine around town? As much as I enjoy the standard Chinese options that are standard in every joint around, I’m hinkerin for a change. I’ll even expand the range to Northern Minnesota if need be. Come on folks, help me out!

Help out an aspiring Duluth runner
Hello Duluthians. I am trying to do more running as the season warms up … although at this point what I actually do is closer to “lumber” or “amble quickly.” Anyway, running on the Duluth Lakewalk is fine, but I would like to focus on a closed 1/4 mile track. Does anyone know of a track (or similar item) that is open to the public?

MN DNR license fee increase meeting
Join the W.J. McCabe Duluth Chapter of the Izaak Walton League for an informational meeting on the proposed MN DNR license fee increases. A representative from the MN DNR will give a presentation and answer questions relative to this important issue for the future of natural resource managament in Minnesota. The event will take place at Hartley Nature Center (3001 Woodland Ave., Duluth) on Wedensday, April 6, @ 7 p.m. Call 218-525-3745 for more information.
This event is free for Izaak Walton and HNC members. A $4 donation for non-members.
We Are One
Please join us for a Noon Rally at City Hall to draw attention to the attacks on collective ing and workers’ rights across the country as well as the right wing’s “cuts only budget” that rates high in political rhetoric and low on moving Minnesota forward. These attacks and budget cuts impact real people and we want to stand up to them.
Then this evening, join us for a silent march and vigil to remember and honor Dr. King and all those who have been silenced in the struggle for equal rights. We will meet at the Clayton Jackson McGhie Memorial at 5:30pm then march silently to the federal building where we will be greeted with music and will hold a vigil.
