Galls, Burls and Brooms! Oh My!
This workshop focuses on exploring the Lilliputian world of galls, burls, witches’ brooms and non-Metazoan plant diseases as well as the plants they grow on. Start with some basic ID skills before heading out for a hike at Park Point.
Marcie Rendon: So You Want to Become a Writer?
Join award winning author Marcie Rendon and White Earth Ojibwe tribal member as she leads a writing workshop, book reading and Q & A. Local Duluth authors Linda LeGarde Grover, Tashia Hart and Carolyn Sue Olson will be joining and giving tips on becoming an author. Open to the public. There will be light refreshments and door prizes.
Digital Art Camp with Ant Nold
Students in this five-day art camp explore how artists use tablets to draw, paint, edit images and create simple animations.
A limited number of iPads are available to use in class, and students are welcome to bring their own tablet. When registering, select a ticket option accordingly to assure everyone has an iPad. Students bringing their own device should have Procreate, Calipeg and Sketchbook installed before the first day.
Sessions are from 9 a.m. to noon June 8-12. The cost is $170 for DAI members and $210 for nonmembers. Registration is available at duluthart.org. Beginners are welcome.
Creative Clay Camp ages 8-11
Participants will learn foundational ceramic techniques while developing their own creative style through functional pottery, sculptural work and more detailed clay projects. Students will be encouraged to experiment, problem-solve and build technical skills in a supportive studio setting. Bring clothes that can be messy and a water bottle. All artwork will be glazed and kiln-fired in a food-safe finish.Families will be notified when artwork is ready.This series runs June 8-12, 10 a.m.-12 p.m. with an additional series running June 22-26. Returning students are welcome.

Registration for new students takes place every Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. and takes approximately three hours to complete. After registration, students put together their own independent schedule — classes, independent study, online, in person, daytime or evening. The program is highly individualized and customized.

A Closer Look Series: Bumblebees
Come take “A Closer Look” and learn more about some interesting species groups with this talk series. These 1.5 hour talks with Head Naturalist Clinton Dexter-Nienhaus will informative deep-dives. The first talk in the series will investigate the lives of bumblebees. This will be an indoor class in the Lois King Education Center.
Field trip attendance is free for Friends of Sax-Zim Bog members. The $25 membership fee covers entry to all field trips and programs, excluding workshops, in a 12-month period.

Shaker-Style Coffee Table Class Series
Students will make a cherry wood coffee table to take home during this class series. The fee includes all materials. Sessions are on Saturdays — June 13, June 20, June 27 and July 11 (if needed) — from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Instructor Jessica is a hobbyist woodworker who focuses on furniture and DIY around the house.

Come take “A Closer Look” and learn more about some interesting species groups with this talk series. These 1.5 hour talks with Head Naturalist Clinton Dexter-Nienhaus will be informative deep-dives. Our second talk in the series, this summer, will investigate the curious lives of Frogs & Toads. This will be an indoor class in the Lois King Education Center.
Field trip attendance is free for Friends of Sax-Zim Bog members. The $25 membership fee covers entry to all field trips and programs, excluding workshops, in a 12-month period.

Stained Glass Mosaic Class
Create a mosaic on a birch wood with stained glass. Learn about different glass cutting techniques and mosaics. The first day of class students will create your mosaic and on the second day, grout the mosaic. All supplies provided.
Class will take place on 2 days: June 13th from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and June 14th from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Summer Camp: DIY Room Décor with Tiffany Fenner
“Campers” can complete a variety of paper mache and clay projects to decorate their space. Projects include clay coaster sets, shelves and oil-diffuser beads. Sessions run June 15-19 from 9 a.m. to noon.

Hartley Sustainability Workshop Series
This workshop series aims to connect community members with local environmental experts to instruct about local environmental challenges and solutions shaping the region. Workshops take place on the third Thursday of each month and will run through July 2026.
Wild Mushrooms 101
During this class, participants will learn about foraging and identifying wild mushrooms. Learn some basic information about mushrooms, steps for identifying mushrooms, steps for foraging mushrooms, common edible mushrooms, common toxic mushrooms and recommended resources. Everyone will get to handle real mushrooms to get some hands-on experience. This class takes place in a classroom but you will leave with the skills and knowledge to find and identify mushrooms in the wild.

All artwork will be glazed and kiln-fired in a food-safe finish. Finished work will be ready for pickup after kiln firing. Families will be notified when artwork is ready.
The series runs June 22nd-June 26th 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
