The Underappreciated Paintings by Jean Kirwan

Come celebrate the lesser-loved creatures of the north woods. They may not be glamorous, but they deserve a little recognition of their own. The paintings will be on display the entire month of June. Light refreshments served.

Digital Art Camp with Ant Nold

Students in this five-day art camp explore how artists use tablets to draw, paint, edit images and create simple animations.

A limited number of iPads are available to use in class, and students are welcome to bring their own tablet. When registering, select a ticket option accordingly to assure everyone has an iPad. Students bringing their own device should have Procreate, Calipeg and Sketchbook installed before the first day.

Sessions are from 9 a.m. to noon June 8-12. The cost is $170 for DAI members and $210 for nonmembers. Registration is available at duluthart.org. Beginners are welcome.

Creative Clay Camp ages 8-11

Participants will learn foundational ceramic techniques while developing their own creative style through functional pottery, sculptural work and more detailed clay projects. Students will be encouraged to experiment, problem-solve and build technical skills in a supportive studio setting. Bring clothes that can be messy and a water bottle. All artwork will be glazed and kiln-fired in a food-safe finish.Families will be notified when artwork is ready.This series runs June 8-12, 10 a.m.-12 p.m. with an additional series running June 22-26. Returning students are welcome.

Participants will learn foundational ceramic techniques while developing their own creative style through functional pottery, sculptural work and more detailed clay projects. Students will be encouraged to experiment, problem-solve and build technical skills in a supportive studio setting. Bring clothes that can messy and a water bottle. All artwork will be glazed and kiln-fired in a food-safe finish. Finished work will be ready for pickup after kiln firing. Families will be notified when artwork is ready.

The first series will run June 8th-June 12th from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. The second series runs June 22nd-June 26th 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Returning students are welcome.

After Hours Art Show: Experience Local Art at the Duluth Grill

The After Hours Art features Minnesconsin Gallery artists and their latest creative works at the Duluth Grill. Meet the artists and learn the stories behind their creations, socialize with fellow art enthusiasts and enjoy a curated atmosphere. Complimentary wine and appetizers, and a cash bar are available.     

The featured artists include Marissa Saurer, Lori Franklin, Sue Pavlatos, Anni Friesen, Linnaea Borealis Rose, Kris Nelson, Kellie Rae Theiss, Mandy Berg, Steve Martindale and others.

Nice Girls of the North Second Saturday Marketplace

Nice Girls of the North is a local, woman-owned art cooperative that hosts a marketplace on the second Saturday of every month featuring a variety of handcrafted items — jewelry, cards, home decor, hand-dyed yarn and clothing, baked goods and jams and more.

Shaker-Style Coffee Table Class Series

Students will make a cherry wood coffee table to take home during this class series. The fee includes all materials. Sessions are on Saturdays — June 13, June 20, June 27 and July 11 (if needed) — from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Instructor Jessica is a hobbyist woodworker who focuses on furniture and DIY around the house.

Summer Camp: DIY Room Décor with Tiffany Fenner

“Campers” can complete a variety of paper mache and clay projects to decorate their space. Projects include clay coaster sets, shelves and oil-diffuser beads. Sessions run June 15-19 from 9 a.m. to noon.

Screening and Q&A: Minnesota’s Role in the American Story

PBS North presents an exclusive afternoon of history, storytelling and community conversation at their studio centered around locally-produced segments from their collaborative documentary series Minnesota and the American Story. An intimate Q&A session with PBS North production manager Chris Brown follows. Brown will provide behind-the-scenes insights into how these local stories were brought to life.
