Transworld Snowboarding video contest – Vote for your local shop!
Damage Boardshop over on 1904 W. Superior St. submitted a quick shop edit to Transworld Snowboarding‘s website for its Neff: East vs. West shop video contest. For all of you metal fans they used a song by Class of ’86 and edited without all the foreplay, getting straight to the point and making it last a little over 2 minutes (which is totally normal for most of those guys.)
Everyone can vote one time (tracked by I.P.) so if you really like it and you’re at work go make your rounds on all the desktops! If you don’t like it STFU and make your own last-minute edit.
Place your vote at snowboarding.transworld.net.
I also heard a rumor if you vote and run into the owner at any local establishment that serves alcohol (e.g. Carmody, Lucé, Black Woods) he’ll buy you a shot of Patron.

This is an actual “Where in Duluth?” since I cannot tell exactly where it is. I have a couple of guesses but the PDD brain trust will know for sure, and I’m hoping you’ll have a little color or perspective to add, too. (more…)
Homegrown Music Video Festival
Call for music!
Call for filmmakers!
We’re doing another Homegrown Music Video Festival this year. Filmmakers draw a song at random from a beautiful top hat, then make a music video from said song.
Here is the PDD link to last year.
Would you be willing to donate a song or two to the cause?
Would you like to make a music video for a free pass to Homegrown?

Take Me Out to the Ball Game
“Take Me Out To The Ball Game” was written by Jack Norworth and Albert Von Tilzer in 1908. These images were shot the same year to help sell the song to the public.
The singer in the video is Edward Meeker, one of Thomas Edison’s technicians. This is how they sold music (sheet music, specifically) back in the day — kind of an early form of music video. These were called illustrated songs. An “illustrator” would stand on stage and sing the song while glass slide images portraying the song’s storyline were projected on a screen. Anywhere from 12 to 16 slides were produced for a song. The last slide was usually the chorus text so audience members could sing along. In this version, I’ve enhanced the chorus with slides from other baseball songs. Illustrated songs were often part of vaudeville and early movie theater programs. Notice the giant wad of Cracker Jacks Katie Casey is enjoying. That’s how it was sold back then.
It’s opening day!

Documentary Film Passing Through
Passing Through is a documentary about a man from Northern Minnesota who has struggled with the HIV/AIDS virus for 20 years. I finished the film in 2007 as a senior in the video production program at UW-Superior. The film won the jury award in the student category at the Wisconsin Film Festival in ’08. Since then I haven’t been sure what to do with it, so last night I uploaded it to Vimeo for the public to view. If you have 20 minutes please check it out.

Colbert takes on Pawlenty’s dramatic ads
At PDD, we compared Pawlenty to Superman, among other things, for his chest-puffed image on his book cover. Stephen Colbert one ups us by comparing him to Brawny Man.
At PDD, we called Pawlenty President of the United States of Apocalypse after viewing his book trailer. Colbert says Pawlenty is “running for President of the next Transformers movie.” That one could probably go either way.
