Milk Prices
First of all, it’s a little ridiculous that milk costs different prices at different fat contents. This is not standard throughout the rest of the state (I do, however, find it quite humorous that most of us are willing to pay more for better tasting beer, but not better tasting milk). Does anyone know why 2% has been so much cheaper than other kinds of milk lately? Usually milk here gets progressively more expensive at higher fat contents, but the past few times I have gone grocery shopping 2% has been almost a dollar cheaper per gallon than even skim milk.
Wood rings?
Does anyone know of a local jeweler/craftsperson who makes wood engagement rings? A friend has a loose diamond that he’d like made into a ring for his sweetie, preferably in wood.

Where to buy We Accept the Challenge?
Does anybody know where I can buy a copy of “We Accept the Challenge” either new or used?
Facebook and Twitter Login on PDD
There were problems this week with the WordPress plugin that allows PDD users to log in via Facebook. In geek speak: “Facebook changed its API login procedures, which broke the plugin.”
We have a new plugin running now, so, if you are the sort to log in via Facebook instead of creating a PDD account the old fashioned way, please give it a try and let us know if you have problems. The new plugin also allows logins through Twitter. (If you are not logged in you can click either social icon below to launch. If you are logged in, you won’t see icons below.)
[oa_social_login]
A few polls opened this week that those of you who log in with Facebook had been excluded from until now. They are still open, so there’s still time for that.
Note: Logging in will not allow you to purchase health insurance from Perfect Duluth Day.

Duluth Trading Co Flannelytics
The Duluth Trading Company has just posted a new blog post regarding the Top Flannel Cities in the US. I am already a tad prejudice toward them since their connection to Duluth is in name only. Now, seeing they don’t even mention Duluth, Minnesota as a flannel locale, I am even more opposed to their co-opting our city name. One would think they would at least try to open a retail store here, instead of only in southern Wisconsin and the Twin Cities area.
Feeling assailed by feline
Does Animal Allies have a bad-kitty pickup service?
Lost Car Key at Hawk Ridge
My friend lost a Subaru key while she was running the trails behind Hawk Ridge – snowmobile trail, Amity Trail, Superior Hiking Trail. Replacing it will cost her $260. Have you seen it?
Looking for a specialist in preserving antique needlework
We inherited an old piece of needlework. It is probably about 50 years old, maybe older. It could be as much as 100 years old. We have it, but in a move the glass broke and we need it to be re-framed/matted — whatever you do to keep a piece like this looking good. Who do I call, where do I go to begin tracking down this?
Credit card found in Chester Park
Found a credit card in the parking lot at Chester Park on October 4. If it’s yours, post a comment here to contact me (your return email is sent to me automatically when you comment).
Where in Duluth?

This is probably a gimmie this time of year, but it was so gorgeous I wanted to share it.

Lost Childs Merrell Shoe on Lakewalk
I lost one childs Merrell shoe on Saturday when walking on the Lakewalk. It is about a size 3 and is blue and orange with a Velcro strap. I would really like to get this shoe back, please let me know if you happen to have picked it up or have seen it. Thanks!
T-Mobile Cell Coverage in Duluth
My wife and I are long-time Verizon wireless subscribers. In my experience, their coverage is second to none, no matter how far off the beaten path I’ve gotten. Unfortunately their customer services are starting to fade.
It used to be that after two years (contract period) they’d offer discounted prices and a $100 credit toward a new phone. Then, a few years back, it was lowered to a $50 credit. Today, when I looked at a replacement phone for her cracked one, there is no credit, plus they now charge $30 on top of the phone price ($100 to $300) as an “upgrade fee.” All the while collecting the $140 per month for service while “locking” us in for an additional two years.
Well, I’m getting woozy from this roller coaster and want off. From my research, T-Mobile has the market cornered in both service price for two smart phones as well as remaining contract-free. My worry is whether those savings and lack of seat belts will come with sketchy coverage? Any PDD people with T-Mobile?
East Superior Street
Could anyone tell me how the neighborhood is on East Superior Street near the Rose Garden?
Moving to Duluth, wondering about people and bad areas
I just accepted an engineering position in Duluth and I will be moving there from Grand Forks in the next few weeks. Can anyone tell me if there are many young professionals there around my age (26)? Also what are some areas I should avoid living in? I noticed a lot of the homes on the hill look pretty run down. What I would like is an apartment in the west side of town or on the hill. Other than that I enjoy the outdoors during all seasons so I think its a good fit there, just wondering about the people and areas.
Graduate Study in the Twin Ports
I am lucky enough to have been declared the director of graduate studies in the Master of Liberal Studies degree at UMD.
It made me think that a guide to local grad programs would be helpful. So I built one. Which programs listed below are you an alumnus from? And what advice might you have for new students?
