Anyone have a running car to sell?
We’re in desperate need of a cheap car. Nothing fancy — just something that runs and can be trusted to get us from point A to point B without too much heartbreak. We’d even be willing to rent something for a while until we can get something else.
So if you’ve got something laying around that you don’t really use, let’s talk. Feel free to contact me via email at adam @ moesewco.com.
Perfect Duluth Day Spelling, Punctuation and Proper Usage Police
From time to time the geeks who comment on this website will get into arguments about grammar, spelling and so on. It doesn’t happen too often, but when it does it kind of excites certain people while it embarrasses and annoys others. Some people just love to show off their mad English skills, while others don’t care if their capable of getting there sentences from here to they’re properly.
With that in mind, this post has been created as a bitching ground for uptight word nerds.
Don’t let this post stop you from creating your own post to showcase public blunders in the future, it just seemed like this type of stuff needs a home base.
Here are some related posts from the past:

A Small Request
To help this discussion along, we’ve started the “Perfect Duluth Day Writer’s Guide,” as a handy reference to Duluth-related nouns that are frequently botched.
Let your ranting begin.
Sure, it’s Esko Fun Days …
… but we’re going to be working hard to get rid of our stuff!
Find yourself heading south on 35 this Friday or Saturday? Take the Esko/Thompson exit. Hang a right at the top and you’ll be looking for 34 W. Riverside Drive. (it’s the second road on your left).
We’ll be there from 9-1 on Friday and 10-? on Saturday, and we need to move this stuff! We’ve got bikes, furniture, art, game systems, clothes, etc. After you’ve found your treasure, head into Esko to check out the happenings.

Lost glasses on Congdon Park Trail / Tischer Creek Trail
I lost my glasses today after getting stuck in the rain on a hike and putting them in my pocket. I took them off while on the trail but we were pretty close to the trail head by Vermilion Road / St. Marie St., by that wonky curve. We then walked across the bridge, turned right onto Lakeview Drive, and walked all the way to Waverly Place and turned left. If anyone has seen them, I would love to have them back, since I don’t have insurance or any money to buy new ones. They have black frames that are white on the inside and edges.
In other news, the thimble berries on the trail are starting to ripen, and there are lots of stands of them all the way up and down the trail!
Lake Superior’s chocolate color
I’m guessing it’s all the mud from the Wisconsin rivers that is causing our lake to turn a deep shade of brown. I’ve watched it slowly ooze its way across the lake all day. All that sediment can’t be good for anything. I wonder how common an occurrence this is to have this much water coming down rivers this time of year.
Favorite campsite?
Anyone have a favorite campsite at George H. Crosby/ Manitou state park? I always used to go to #5, but want input on other fabulous spots, on the river. Your thoughts?

Update on Cathedral Parking
Thought I’d pass along an update to the early July post regarding parking around the Cathedral on Sunday:
We were all gently reminded today not to park on Wallace or in any illegal parking areas today after mass. The police have informed Father Peter they will start ticketing next week. A nice reminder that sometimes if you call the police, or the source of your problem, you can get things done! Hopefully tickets will work … people are still walking in for mass at 11 a.m. and the mass time was changed to 10:30 a.m. a couple of months ago. I suspect that will continue for a couple of years.

Anybody see this yet? It was certainly a surprising sight while waiting in the drive-through at McDonald’s.
While I was getting coffee at the London Road McDonald’s, I noticed signs popping up from the other side of the fence.
Wanted: beach water temperature patrol
Maybe this is already somewhere on the webs, but wouldn’t it be nice to have somewhere to go to see how warm/cold the lake is before venturing down for a swim? I’m not talking exact temps per say, but a simple, yeah, the water off the point is “vagina aching cold” today, or, the water at Brighton is “just peed in the lake” warm, come on down. Of course, it’s never a bad idea to mosey on down to the lake and find out for yourself, but it would be way cool to have a temp update too.
He’s Back…
Tony ‘I Wish I Had My Life Back’ Hayward of BP oil ‘spill’ fame has landed his feet squarely in our backyard – as the Environmental Officer for GlenCore, the PI for the planned sulfide mining project near Hoyt Lakes.
Any dirty hippies/concerned citizens/people who simply love the Northland out there want to protest this thing?
Old can collection
During attic clean out I came across the remnants of an old beer and soda can collection put together during the 1970s. It is about 500 cans, mostly pull tab but also a few flat tops. Cool old Schmidt scenery cans, and the like. Anyone know any can collectors in the Duluth area that might be interested in looking through them for gems?
Cinematic Inquiry
I am working on a film project that uses a variety of sources — DV Tape, CGI, Photoshop, etc. I want to try to put the DV images which are 720×540 on part of the screen and something else on the other part because I want the film to end up as 16:9 and all the DV is 4:3.
I have been all through all kinds of Lynda.com etc. and can’t find the answer to this. I am including a picture to show where I am trying to go. (more…)

Where in Duluth – Flashback Edition
Girl on her Bike, Duluth, 1977. By Tom Arndt from his book Home.
Now, I don’t actually know where in Duluth this was taken, but I’d like to know so I can go re-shoot it. The buildings in the background look distinct enough that I hope someone here recognizes them if they are still standing.
