Looking for a few good Trojans
The Duluth Central Trojans All-Team Basketball Reunion is set for Oct 26 and 27. We’re still trying to locate former players (boys and girls), cheerleaders and fans. The reunion committee is also looking for Duluth Central basketball memorabilia: photos, programs, etc.
We already have an old-timers game set and we will meet with legendary Central coaches after the game hosted by former Trojan and current mayor Don Ness.

Wednesday Night at the Races
The rain cleared just in time for Wednesday Night Races at UMD, leaving behind a puddle for Josh Birchhill’s daughter to play in.
The rain cleared just in time for Wednesday Night at the Races. It has become a summer tradition for hundreds of families throughout the Northland. The youth race series is held on six consecutive Wednesday evenings in July and August, and draws an average of over 500 children per night.

Looking for some sports geeks to join a fantasy football league
Some friends and I are trying to put together a new fantasy football league for the 2012 season. Most of us don’t spend a lot of time with other sports fans and we’re having trouble getting enough people together. I thought this might be a good place to look for participants. Also, we’d like most of the teams/participants to be from the Twin Ports area. We’ve yet to establish fees or specific scoring rules for this league and you’d be involved in that. We’re mostly creative types, music geeks and/or musicians who enjoy professional sports and hope to find similar people but would like to hear from anyone who’s interested. We really only ask that you’re excited about fantasy football and you’re not an asshole (sexist, racist, homophobe, etc.).

The American Outlaws: Duluth Chapter
I’m trying to gauge interest in forming a local chapter of the American Outlaws. What are the American Outlaws you ask? The American Outlaws are a national group of people who support both the U.S. Men’s and Women’s National Soccer teams. Sometimes you’ll travel to games, however most time is spent reveling in national pride watching the match at a local pub. Currently, the nearest chapter is in St. Paul, where they routinely draw 100+ people to watch matches.

Jambox – Tune it in
My 14-year old told me about this this weekend as we were walking the dog around the neighborhood. “There’s a video of a guy snowboarding off this wall, then down into the creek and into that tunnel.” We got an e-mail at PDD headquarters this morning with this link, sure enough, the last shot is just as my kid described. Produced by local clothing company Jambox and filmed at familiar sites all over Duluth.
Parks and Rec flag football registration
Flag football is one of the fastest growing sports throughout the country and this season will mark the 11th year of Duluth’s league. Flag football is a non-contact sport, which teaches both boys and girls in grades 2 through 5 the fundamentals of football. But more importantly, it teaches kids sportsmanship and how to participate in sports while still having fun. Games will be played mostly on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The cost is $60 per player which includes a team jersey. All games held at the Wheeler Athletic Complex at 35th Ave. W. and Grand Ave. Registration deadline is June 7; games beginning in September. To raise money to help complete the Joe Gomer statue at the new Duluth International Airport, Security Jewelers is auctioning an entry to the Garry Bjorklund/Grandma’s Half Marathon. This is a totally sold out event and 100 percent of proceeds will go to help honor this true American hero who was a member of the Tuskegee Air force. Kickball of the Living Dead
The 2012 Homegrown Kickball Classic has already been referred to as the “most pathetic in Homegrown history,” and if you were there you would know this as fact. There were beer bongs. There was a full-body chicken suit. There were children who may or may not have been scarred for life. Through it all, Saturday’s team came through with a 6-4 victory, but it wasn’t pretty.

The Far Par golf course now has the driving range and mini golf open. No doubt the best mini golf in the Twin Ports. Noon to 7 p.m. Just west of Woodland Ave on the corner of Calvary Road and Arnold Road.

2012 Minnesota State High School Hockey Tournament Schedule Brackets
The Minnesota State High School Hockey tournament is starting today. The Duluth area has three teams competing this year — Duluth East Greyhounds in class AA, Hermantown Hawks and Marshall Hilltoppers in class A. Below is the schedules for both brackets. Good luck boys!
