Vintage Duluth/Superior Flickr Pool
For those of you interested in vintage images of the Twin Ports, I thought I’d share a Flickr group I started to showcase all the vintage postcards, photos, maps and images stored on that site. The vintage postcards from Superior are my personal favorites. Please peruse, join the group and add any images you might have — I’d love to see the pool grow!

Halloween banners
Who’s got groovy halloween photos? If you can crop them to ridiculously horizontal proportions and still see what’s going on in them, we want them!
We’re looking for Halloween banners to put at the top of PDD.
Some basic rules:
The image must be 960 pixels wide by 167 pixels high. The Perfect Duluth Day logo will be added by PDD’s art department.
The lower portion of banner photos serve as background to the navigation bar, so crop your image with that in mind. Make sure essential elements are not in the area that will be obscured.
If all of this is too much to wrap your head around, or you don’t have the right image editing software, just e-mail the uncropped photo, and we’ll do our best to crop it so it looks good.
Send them to banners@perfectduluthday.com.
Photographing the Duluth Skyline
A few weeks ago I posted a general guide to photographic locations in Duluth. It was well received so I wanted to write another similar guide. This guide is all about the Duluth skyline. There are maps and directions to seven different places to get a great look at Duluth. Some places may be familiar, others may not. Even if you don’t go to take pictures, these seven spots are amazing for their scenic vistas. With fall in peak color now is the perfect time to get out. Check them out here.
Morning Lake Fog
Did anyone get any good pictures of the fog on Lake Superior this morning? I was up at about 6:30 and I have never seen a more stunning and beautiful example of it. Oh my! As I type there is a fishing boat going out! Wonderful!

Tribute Fest 2011
My wife and I had an opportunity to attend the Tribute Fest this year. It is a concert to raise money for homeless Minnesota Veterans. The organization it helps is called the Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans. It is the first year it was held at Bayfront Park. We had a lot of fun attending, got very sunburnt and gained a few pounds eating vendor food. This is the end result. A handful of 360 images, 20 or so still photos and a 7-minute video clip of the artists. Please consider attending this event next year as all the proceeds go to a great cause. It’s because of the veterans we live in the great country we have.

On the trip, he traversed the two largest Great Lakes, averaged 22 miles a day, paddled in waves taller than a refrigerator, visited Isle Royale and even ordered pizza delivered to his tent. Bryan will exhibit print and digital images from his experience and talk about his adventures. You don’t want to miss this! One of mine is the Kadunce River falls, the only way to access the base of either falls is to hike up river into the canyon.

I went on a little paddle Saturday afternoon to see if I could track down any of those “tall” ships.
I found a couple and I can confirm they are tall.
