That 1 Guy at Big Top Chatauqua
Go see him! If you’re not familiar, check out his website. Saw him first at Green Man a few years back and he’s hella fun. Playing a 1-hour matinee at Big Top Chautauqua this Saturday for only $4 and then opening later that night (still at Big Top) for … hold onto your hearts, ladies … Kansas.
Admittedly, we’re skipping the Kansas part, but the matinee should be rad and there are still a bunch of tickets left.
Band Practice Space in Duluth?
My band is working on finding a place to practice but so far has had no luck. We are a three piece rock band and have a great basement, but don’t want to offend our neighbors.
Does anyone know of any space available for bands to rent in the area? Any ideas?

Excuse Me Princess & Loup-Garou Tour Kickoff
Come celebrate the short 6 day tour that Excuse Me Princess and Loup-Garou are heading out on this Wednesday at Teatro Zuccone. Show is at 7pm and has a $5 cover. It is also an all ages event, so bring the whole family.

The Formal Age with Matt Ray and Those Damn Horses
The Formal Age are a local indie rock band reminiscent of the Cars or the Hold Steady. They are “new” band, but the members are all veteran players who have been a part of the scene since the late 90s. They debuted at Homegrown under the name “A Team / B Team”.
Matt Ray and Those Damn Horses is a 6 piece “string band” that specializes in high-energy, modernized versions of old songs taken from Americana and Roots music along with a healthy dose of original music.
It should be a great show with lots of variety.
A Winter Downpour and Three Song Sunday at Carmody
A Winter Downpour and Three Song Sunday are playing a free show this Friday at Carmody Irish Pub to aid in the celebrating of Ryan Dahlberg’s birthday. Ryan is the creator of the local music website the Duluth Scene. Music gets started at 9 p.m.

Duluth band Low is the guest on World Cafe, which airs on 103.3 FM KUMD weekdays from 3 to 5 p.m. The interview is part of the first hour of the program.
Putting out my shingle?
My husband and I are returning to our Minnesota roots by moving to Duluth in the next week or so. I’ve been a piano teacher for 16 years now. I’ve got friends and contacts in Duluth that keep assuring me that if I “put out my shingle” I’ll have a full studio in a snap.
What I can’t figure out is how exactly I do that. In my old neighborhood in Chicago I made a pretty flier and put it on people’s doorstep the first year I taught — after that it’s been word of mouth.
Anybody have any ideas for me?

The event beings at 5:30pm and continues until 6am the following morning. Join us for the opening ceremonies at 6:15pm, the Luminaria lighting at 9:15 or check out Mynx performing from 8-9pm! There will be food for sale, a climbing wall and Japanese Restorative Therapy sessions. Come out and support your local American Cancer Society!
