Free The Hikers: The 59th Day benefit, freethehikers.org

Shane Bauer, Josh Fattal and Sarah Shourd have been detained in Iran since July 31, 2009, when news reports say they accidentally crossed an unmarked border during a hiking trip in the mountains of Iraqi Kurdistan. They were in a peaceful region of Iraq that is increasingly popular with Western tourists.

The three young Americans, all graduates of the University of California at Berkeley, are believed to be held in the Iranian capital, Tehran. They have not been charged with any crime, have had no contact with their families, and have not been granted their right to consular access.

Shane, Josh and Sarah care greatly about the world. They admire and respect different cultures and religions and share a love of travel that has taken them to many countries. That’s why they went to Kurdistan, not because they wanted to enter Iran.

Shane Bauer grew up in Onamia, Minnesota.  His sister and brother-in-law live in Duluth.  We are holding a fundraiser for them on Sept. 27 to raise money and support the effort to bring them home as soon as possible.

Please consider supporting any way you can!  All proceeds will go to the families to help defray the costs of travel,  awareness, etc. that are adding up daily.

Fundraiser Sept. 27

5 p.m. Hiking Meditation in honor of the hikers.  By donation.  All proceeds go toward Free the Hikers. Details to follow!
6-9 p.m. Silent Auction and live music at the Spiritual Deli

Donations needed for the silent auction!

Please contact us if you have something to offer!  All donations greatly appreciated!  218.722.9378 or jodi@spiritualdeli.com

Learn more, be informed. Visit www.FreeTheHikers.org. The families and friends of the three hikers created this site to tell the story of Shane, Josh and Sarah and keep the world informed about their situation.

It’s that time again!!!

Get your bike out and ride. Bring a jacket. We’ll probably do about 60 miles, last month’s ride was about 70, and extremely nice. We even had some beers on my porch. But that’s beside the point, which is get out your bike and ride, because this is Duluth and there will be ice on the roads in a month 🙂

Extra! Extra!

Hey there – have you ever dreamed of being an extra in an independent film? Well here’s your chance! 4 Track Films is currently shooting a new romantic comedy entitled The Life Of Riley and we’re looking for folks to come out this Sunday night (3am-10am) for a club scene we will be shooting at RT Quinlan’s. There will be music, merriment and a state of the art Red One camera to ogle. If interested please call 218.336.1372 or email info@4trackfilms.com.

Connor Garvey House Concert

I am supposedly having a house concert this Sunday, around 8 p.m. It’s a folk guitar-uke singer/songwriter I met in Montana this past July. I say supposedly because he hasn’t gotten back to me recently … but it’s still listed on his tour page. Anyway, I need some more people to fill the house. If you’re interested in coming, please reply here. I’ll probably only accept regular posters, or if I can inspect you on the book of faces first, since it’s my house and I’m allowed to do that. But I’d really love to meet more people. So reply and come! And convince some friends to come, too! I’m shooting for 20 people; I have a small house.

Oh and there is a cover; $10 gets you music, wine and food. All goes to the musician. Hooray for grassroots!

The show will be performed smack dab in the middle of Applefest, right on the main stage. The show will feature local musicians from Big Top Chautauqua, a Brett Favre apple sketch or two, and other fun surprises.
