Glensheen Living Literature Presents: The Monkey’s Paw
Gather ’round for a spooky reading of “The Monkey’s Paw” at Glensheen on October 22, October 23, and October 24 at 7 p.m. A special flashlight tour of the mansion is included, and the evening concludes with refreshments and a guided discussion of W.W. Jacob’s 1902 tale. $25 – $33. Reservations online or by calling 726-8910.
Circles of Giving – Donate your stuff and shop for free stuff
The next Circles of Giving event is Saturday, Oct. 24, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Valley Youth Center in West Duluth. It’s a recycling-minded shopping event where everything is free.
If you’ve got something useful you want to get rid of, someone will actually come to your home and pick it up for the purpose of giving it to someone who wants it. (Although it would obviously be easier for the organizers if you drop it off).

Same-sex marriage rally in Duluth Oct. 11
On Sunday, Oct. 11 hundreds of thousands of supporters of equal rights and same-sex marriage will be marching on Washington D.C.

For those in the Northland who can’t make it D.C. for this historic event, we’re going to be holding a solidarity protest here in Duluth. The protest will begin at noon, and will be held at the MN Power Plaza at the corner of Lake Ave. & Superior Street.
The plan is a simple one – we’ll be holding signs and handing out fliers to pedestrians. There will be a brief rally featuring several local activists as speakers. We also plan on having an open mic after wards for anyone else who wants to share some words.
We’ll have a few extra signs on hand, but if you can please bring your own – and be sure to bring a friend!
If you would like more info you can contact Adam Ritscher at wainosunrise@yahoo.com

Terror Train 2009 Duluth
This biennial Halloween event normally sells out. I can confirm it is a ghoulish good time, even though I missed the train going back to Duluth and was stuck in Two Harbors for the night. I guess Joe Dirt was a little too drunk to hear the last three “All Aboard” calls. That must have been about the time I was in the basement of the Legion doing shots from the mystery bag for a buck. Got a motorcycle and a warm jacket??
One more First Thursday Motorcycle Ride!!!!!
Sorry no flier for this month’s ride, it was kind of last minute. A group of us are meeting at the Whole Foods Co-op, I’ll be there by 5:30. We plan on heading out at 6, maybe a quick ride around skyline, or maybe out to Jay Cooke. Bring some warm clothes, and pray for clear skies. We most likely won’t ride if it’s pouring rain. See you there!
Morley Park Fall Fundraising Festival
This Saturday is the Fall Fundraising Festival for Morley Heights Park. Join us from 10am to 2pm for a free fun outdoor party in the park and help us raise the money to erect a new playground for our neighborhood. Enjoy live music by Rachel Kilgour and the Duluth Suzuki Violin students, food, and free games and activities for the whole family!
Directions to Morley Park: From Snively Road, turn northwest onto Morley Parkway and follow up the hill to the park.

HELIPHINO IV!

Our next festival is this Friday, Oct 2! If you’re heading this direction or looking for something interesting to do, stop on by! A Whisper in the Noise and Tim Kaiser will perform later in the evening, while Logan “logain” Erickson will give a circuit bending demo and performance earlier on. Bruce Nelson, who hasn’t performed in over 10 years, opens the show (for those of us crusty old folks, he’s the grizzled guy who used to run the open stage at Quinlans in the early 90’s where many cut their performing teeth).
