Filmmaker Angela Shelton drives around the United States surveying other Angela Sheltons. She discovers that 24 out of the 40 Angela Sheltons she speaks to are survivors of rape, childhood sexual abuse and/or domestic violence.
Kid’s Paper Making – Reuse & Recycle
We will take a group walk through neighborhood parks to gather flowers & leaves. We will use those along with reused paper to create unique, new paper. Each child will be actively involved in creating their own paper to take home!

Last-minute Reminder for Bicyclers
Fit City Duluth is hosting public meetings to survey bicycle riders in Duluth. Information gathered from these meetings will be used in a recommendation to the city and various other agencies who are interested in bicycle route development. The five remaining meetings will be held at 6pm at the following locations (and good food will be provided):
- Monday, April 26th at the Piedmont Community Center
- Tuesday, April 27 at City Center West
- Thursday, April 29 at the UMD Garden Room
- Monday, May 3 at the Central Hillside Community Center
- Tuesday, May 4 at the Portman Community Center

Made in Minnesota Thriller “Four Boxes” Coming to Zinema 2 for World Theatrical Debut
Four Boxes, a made-in-Minnesota thriller described as Rear Window on the Internet” and starring Justin Kirk (Showtime’s Weeds), will make its World Theatrical Premiere in Duluth at the Zinema 2 Theater May 21 to 27, 2010.
Written, produced and directed by Minneapolis filmmaking husband-and-wife team Wyatt McDill and Megan Huber, Four Boxes had its World Premiere at last year’s South-by-Southwest Film Festival in Austin, Texas. The film will tour nationally in the Fall to coincide with a Halloween release of the DVD, but Duluth will be the first place in America – outside of a festival – to get a peek at the film variously described as “The Blair Witch Project meets YouTube,” and “The Sex, Lies and Videotape of our time.” Visit fourboxesthemovie.com to see the trailer and find out more!

May 1 – Dulcimer Day in Duluth
Master dulcimer performer/instructors will be in Duluth Saturday, May 1. Concerts at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Instrument vendors and local crafters 10 to 4 p.m. 20 classes held starting at 9 a.m. with assorted traditional folk instruments: dulcimers, autoharp, banjo, and bowed psaltry. Workshops to dye a scarf and make a whistle. Lunch will be for sale by Community Action Duluth to raise funds for their Circles of Support group. Class schedule at www.DulcimersInDuluth.com. This is the 9th year for this fair.

UMD Spring Sustainability Fair – Thursday, April 22nd – 9am-2pm – UMD Kirby Student Center
This semester the theme of the UMD Sustainability Fair is Art and Design. What can you do at the fair? Attend an engaging conversation with community experts! Architect David Salmela, FAIA, will discuss architecture and sustainability. Pastor David Carlson of Duluth’s Gloria Dei Lutheran Church will talk about his experience with the Early Adopter’s training and how the Natural Step Framework as affected the congregation. Susan Meyers, graduate of UMD’s Masters of Liberal Arts program, will talk about her project, Creating a Journey into Healing with Art. Ryan Jordan, UMD Admissions Diversity Counselor, will present on Music and Social Change. You’ll have the opportunity to learn more about sustainability efforts in the Twin Ports by visiting over 20 community and campus organization’s informational and interactive booths! Modest Home Makeover
Last summer/fall, the Extreme Makeover Home Edition TV show came to town to build a new home for the Huber family in South Range. It was a wonderful thing, but several commenters on this website wrote that those efforts should continue without all the TV cameras and didn’t need to be so extreme.
A little something called Modest Home Makeover was started around that time, with the goal of raising $150,000 to build a new home for Rick & Brenda Hallfrisch. Fox 21 News did this story about it …

Happy Record Store Day
Today is the third Saturday in April, which means that it’s officially Record Store Day. The way to celebrate Record Store Day is to go check out your local independent record stores, which in the Twin Ports means either the Electric Fetus or the Vinyl Cave.
