Sean Carey of Bon Iver is coming to UMD with his band in support of his album, “All We Grow” on Tuesday, January 25th. Local favorite, Sarah Krueger, will be opening the night with a full band set.

Atmosphere coming to Duluth!
Minnesota’s favorite rap duo is embarking on a Welcome To Minnesota Tour this February with stops in Mankato (22), Bemidji (23), St. Cloud (24), Rochester (25) and Duluth (26).
The Duluth show will take place in UMD’s Romano Gymnasium. Besides Atmosphere, the tour also includes Prof, Los Nativos, and DJ Abilities.

Haiti Earthquake Victims Remembrance at First Lutheran
First Lutheran Church Duluth invites all to a day of prayer and remembrance of Ben Larson, his family and all the victims of the Haiti earthquake on the one year anniversary of this disaster. Organized Prayer times in the church sanctuary will be 8:00-9:00 a.m., 12:00-12:30 p.m., 3:45-4:45 p.m. and 7:00-7:30 p.m. Bells will be rung at 3:53 pm the time of the earthquake in support of “Bells for Haiti.” Free will offerings will be accepted for ELCA World Relief efforts in Haiti. Dirty Horse: Tartan EP Release Party
Dirty Horse will be hosting a party in celebration of its first studio endeavor: Tartan E.P. The party will open at 9:30 with an acoustic set by Jason Schooler, followed by a groovy set by Big Wave Dave and the Ripples around 10, and last will be an extra rowdy rock set by Dirty Horse.
Bring a wig for head-banging (if you don’t already have long hair), comfortable shoes for jumping, and an appetite for second-hand merchandise! Rowdy!
Shawn Thompson Photography Exhibit
Featured photographer Shawn Thompson’s natural landscape photography will be exhibited at the Duluth Photography Institute, 405 E. Superior St. in Duluth through mid-February. There is a free public reception at the DPI facility on Friday, Jan. 14, from 5-8pm.
Shawn will be available to discuss his work and refreshments will be served. Trampled by Turtles to play Brewfest
Trampled by Turtles are playing a concert at the Great Twin Ports Taste-Together Brewfest and Wine Tasting at Black Bear Casino’s Otter Creek Event Center on Saturday, Feb.19. The Brewfest runs from 4-8pm and features live music by the Fractals before the Turtles take the stage at 8:30pm. You must have a ticket for the Brewfest to see the Turtles.

NASA Astronaut Jeffrey Williams at the Lake Superior Ballroom
The Duluth Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol is honored to have NASA Astronaut Jeffrey Williams as the keynote speaker for its upcoming Awards Banquet. Colonel Williams will provide an inspirational talk and photo presentation of his nearly one full-year of living in space. The public is encouraged to attend.
The event will be held the evening of Thursday, Jan. 27, in the Lake Superior Ballroom of the Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center. Tickets are $29 ($35 after Jan. 10) and include dinner.

The Lamplighter in Souptown is under new ownership and is re-opening this week! Remember the L-shaped pool table? It could be yours to win! 2011 Community Potluck & Open House
Yoga North invites the public to a Community Potluck & Open House on Sunday, Jan. 2, 2-5pm. This is our annual kick-off to our Winter session of classes.
Enjoy free half-hour demo yoga classes, discounts on everything (including class registration, workshops, props, mats, posture and philosophy books, clothing, etc.), as well as community time with instructors and fellow students.
Bring a dish to share along with a plate and utensils for yourself. Yoga North is located in the Lakeside neighborhood of Duluth in St. Michael’s Elementary School at 4628 Pitt St. in Duluth. Enter at the far east Pitt Street door.
This is a great time to start yoga. Our Winter session of classes begins Monday, Jan. 3, including over 20 weekly classes in Hatha, Vinyasa, Ashtanga, Kundalini, Yin and Restorative yoga. New classes include “Your Body” yoga, “Yamas & Niyamas on the Mat,” “Boundless Yoga,” and additional Hatha yoga classes added to the schedule, helping to make yoga available to everyone despite their schedules.

Scattered To The Wind: A Benefit for the People Displaced by the Kozy Fire

This evening of musical entertainment is a benefit for the people displaced by the Kozy Bar & Apartments fire. Although the tragedy is nearly a month old, there is a continual need for support to see these people through this transition. (more…)
New Year’s Eve party for a good cause: CASDA’s Dance to End Abuse
Highlights: live music by Ol’ Yeller! Hors d’oeuvres served throughout the night, cash bar, silent auction, and a champagne toast at midnight.
Tickets are available for purchase at National Bank of Commerce (1127 Tower Ave.) in Superior, Barker’s Island Inn (ask about the special room rates for that evening), or by calling CASDA at (715) 392-3136.
All proceeds from this event go toward helping CASDA provide supportive services to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse.
