Rainn Wilson Likes Us, He Really Likes Us!

Rainn Wilson (who plays Dwight on NBC’s “The Office”) recently alerted his nearly two million followers on Twitter that he found Dink Tank’s “total devotion to McConnaughy (sic) and “Ghosts of Girlfriend’s Past,” Hysterical.”

So, just in case you missed it the first time we posted it, here’s the video again. This time with a fresh smelling seal of approval from a guy we think is pretty damn hysterical too. In fact, way more so.

Comedy Olympics at the Playground!

Renegade Comedy Theatre is proud to announce the return of the Comedy Olympics, the Northland’s original improvisational comedy powerhouse!

Renegade’s new Comedy Olympics will coincide with the grand re-opening of the Teatro Zuccone later this summer, but you can catch a sneak preview of the show during a two-week run at the Playground theatre in the Tech Village in Downtown Duluth. The sneak preview opens tonight, June 19th and runs Friday and Saturday nights until June 27th. All shows at 10:30 pm.

Tickets are only $5 for an evening of high-caliber hilarity!

Dink Tank is holding Auditions

Local sketch comedy team DINK TANK will be holding auditions this Tuesday, May 12th at 7pm at the Teatro Zuccone, 222 East Superior St downtown.

They are looking to expand their team of writers and performers for their September and December shows. You won’t need to prepare anything, as they’ll be asking people to do cold readings from existing sketches.

Alright, alright, alright!

Thanks to an overwhelming amount of donations to Renegade Comedy Theatre, members of DINK TANK will be camping out tonight at the Duluth 10 theatre to be first in line for tickets to the latest Matthew McConaughey opus, GHOSTS OF GIRLFRIENDS PAST.

They will spend the night on the cold concrete, playing their bongos and challenging all comers to a round of hacky sack. And, if you drive by and scream “McConaughey!” at them, they’ll be forced to respond with a chillaxed, “Alright, alright, alright.”

All of this will be filmed for posterity, edited for hilarity and posted online for public consumption and mockery.

The next evening, Friday, May 1st from 6-8pm, they will be joined by local conservative radio host Brad Bennett at the DUNK TANK FOR DINK TANK outside the theatre.

$10 gets you one ball; $25 gets you three, and you can take your pick of who you’d like to dunk – members of DINK TANK or Brad Bennett and members of his radio station staff. All proceeds go to benefit the Renegade Comedy Theatre, a local non-profit committed to providing the Northland with bold, high-quality productions that enrich, enlighten and, above all, entertain.

After the dunking is through, members of DINK TANK will dry off and head in to see the 9 o’clock showing of GHOSTS OF GIRLFRIENDS PAST.

Come down tonight or tomorrow and show your support for local arts…or to mock them. Totally your call.

JK livin’, everybody.

RENEGADE COMBATS TROUBLED ECONOMY WITH GUERILLA FUNDRAISING!

We here at the Renegade Comedy Theatre like putting on shows. They’re fun. And, we think you like seeing them too. So, how bout we join forces to make sure those shows we both like so much can keep happening?

How, you ask? Good question! And if you’d shut up for two seconds we’ll tell you…sheeesh.

If Renegade receives $250 in donations between now and Thursday, April 30th at 5pm, members of DINK TANK will head down to the Duluth 10 theatre and camp out overnight to be first in line to buy tickets to the latest Matthew McConaughey opus, “Ghosts of Girlfriends Past.”

RENEGADE KICKS OFF 2009 WITH A BARREL FULL OF LAUGHS!

(Duluth, MN) – Renegade Comedy Theatre is proud to announce the kick-off of their 2009 season with a production of Pulitzer Prize-winner David Lindsay-Abaire’s uproarious comedy smash, WONDER OF THE WORLD! This production runs Thursdays through Saturdays, February 12th through the 28th at the Teatro Zuccone in downtown Duluth. All performances are at 8pm and tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for students and seniors. Call 218-336-1414 for tickets or purchase them online at www.teatrozuccone.com.

The play follows Cass, a young woman who finds a secret in her husband’s sweater drawer so shocking that she has no choice but to leave him and begin a frantic search for the life she missed out on. Armed with only a suitcase, some jello molded in the shape of a fish and a list of all the things she wants to do before she dies, she boards a bus bound for Niagara Falls. What follows is a hysterical adventure as Cass befriends a blithely suicidal alcoholic, finds true love with a lonely tour boat captain and tries to avoid her husband and the pair of bickering private detectives he’s hired to track her down. Will Cass find a new life or take a barrel ride over the falls?

“I rarely laugh out loud when I see plays, even less when reading them,” admits Artistic Director Katy Helbacka, who’s directing the play. “But when I read this play, I laughed out loud … a lot. This is one of those rare plays that features an abundance of strong roles for women. In theatre, there is a large disparity between the number of actresses and the number of good roles. As an actress, I can attest to how boring it can be playing the damsel-in-distress, the girlfriend or the sassy best friend. This play offers our local talented actresses the chance to take the lead in telling the story. The men are the supporting cast this time. In this show, it’s all about the ladies!”

“We felt this was the perfect show to kick-off our 2009 season, as it reminds audiences that Renegade is committed to entertaining our audiences. As it has been for the past 17 years, a large amount of that entertainment comes from making people laugh, and that won’t change. This show serves as a reminder of what we do best, but also offers a peek into the new direction we’re heading with attention paid to the technical aspects of productions as well as a desire to tell moving, fascinating and meaningful stories in a fresh, bold, new way.”
