Bobby Aro: King of the Great Northwoods

WDSE-TV presents this one-hour documentary on Bobby Aro, the famed 1950-90s Northern Minnesota disc jockey, singer/songwriter and entertainer who put St. Louis County’s Highway 7 on the map. Aro’s Finn-glish novelty songs are well known throughout the Finish communities of the United States and Canada.

Walking to Duluth

We have no idea if Julian Holenstein is really walking from Thunder Bay to Duluth via frozen Lake Superior or if the title of his video is a joke, but either way he’s worth a few awesomeness points.

PDD Video Lab: 1972 Birnamwood Homecoming Parade footage

Birnamwood, Wis. is in the vicinity of Wausau, a roughly four-hour drive from Duluth, but this 43-year-old parade footage is lovely enough to share anyway. Chester Bowl Freestyle Cadet’s-eye View

Video Archive: Puddle Wonderful and Nobody performing at UWS Rothwell Student Center in 1994

Marcus Mathews laid up in 2014UWS Studio II captured these clips from the Puddle Wonderful and Nobody performances at Rothwell Student Center in early 1994. Somewhere deep in the video vault there is also a Puddle Wonderful interview segment. We’ll find it one day.

A big “get well soon” to Puddle drummer Marcus Mathews, who is recovering from a motorcycle accident. “Broken arm, lacerated liver, broken ribs, punctured lung, ligament damage, and a shitpile of cuts and bruises,” he wrote on Facebook. Ouch. Hopefully laughing at this two-minute blast from the past won’t hurt him too much more.

Zach Zweifel hit quarterback Drew Bauer with a 9-yard scoring strike in overtime to cap UMD’s wild 48-45 win over undefeated Ouachita Baptist University last Saturday. The Bulldogs advance to the NCAA Division II Quarterfinals, facing Minnesota State-Mankato this Saturday at Blakeslee Stadium in Mankato.
