The stage is set for the “giantest show on snow.” The American Birkebeiner Giant Ski Race on Main Street in Hayward happens tonight.
Fire
“Fire” was conceived as a response to a prompt from the Listeners Voices program on Two Harbors Community Radio. In the multi-media creation, Richmond provides a narrative of an adventure on the Two Harbors breakwall during a -28° afternoon with wind speeds gusting at 30 m.p.h.
Loading an Ore Ship: The Massive Mesabi Miner
For your educational viewing pleasure, Douglas Hildebrandt uses aerial footage to show how the massive Mesabi Miner is loaded with taconite at Canadian National Dock 6 in West Duluth.
Nolen Sellwood – “Forthcome”

Rob on Bikes: Dreamland at Spirit Mountain
Dreamland mountain bike trail opened at Spirit Mountain last fall. Two minutes into his October ride, Rob of Rob on Bikes crashed and scratched his GoPro lens, but persevered to pull together a segment with only slightly obscured footage.
Video of bull moose sparring in northern Minnesota
From a snowy forest in Voyageurs National Park, about 100 miles north of Duluth, trail camera footage from two weeks ago of two bull moose locking antlers, with a third bull eventually joining in. The video is from the Voyageurs Wolf Project, which is focused on understanding the ecology of wolves in the park.

The latest from Steve “Sisu” Solkela is an ode to tenacity, grit, resilience and old-fashioned stoicism and hardiness. The song is from the recently released album Jenkkihymy: Finnish Fun with Steve Solkela.

The fifth video release from Cloud Cult‘s new album Alchemy Creek is for the song “Vision in a Field.” The concept, visuals and editing are the work of Patrick Riggle.

Duluth band Torment performs “I Am the Problem” on New Year’s Eve at Pizza Lucé. The song is from the band’s new EP, The Pain. The video was shot and edited by Kayden Emantsal and Lane Peterson.
Sugar on the Roof – “Over the Great Saltless Sea”
Sugar on the Roof has a new self-titled album out on Philville Records. The track “Over the Great Saltless Sea” is highlighted here as the latest addition to Perfect Duluth Day’s list of more than 100 songs with “Duluth” in the lyrics or title.
Kyle Orla – “Worried Blues”
Duluth’s Kyle Orla performs “Worried Blues” at the edge of Lake Superior on the last “warm” day in December 2024.
Boxcar – “Here I Am”
The third video release from Duluth band Boxcar‘s new album, For Madmen Only, is directed by Lance Lindahl and edited by Adam Jones, with photography directed by Austin Hilgenberg.

Video Archive: Monnie Goldfine on Spirit Mountain
The Spirit Mountain Recreation Area opened for skiing 50 years ago today — Dec. 20, 1974. To mark the occasion, Perfect Duluth Day dusts off a relic from the video archive featuring Duluth businessman Manley “Monnie” Goldfine presenting the concept for developing Spirit Mountain to the Twin Ports Press Club.
