Wild Horses – “Sioux Falls”
Grand Rapids-based Americana band Wild Horses has released a new single, “Sioux Falls.” The lyric video was shot and edited by Cooper Baumgartner.
Lighthouse Live Sessions: Lydia Boyum
Lydia Boyum released her debut EP, Paradise Lost, in February. In this session from Lighthouse Recording Company in West Duluth, Boyum is joined by frequent collaborator Ryan Lane on background vocals and acoustic guitar. Together they performs three songs from the EP — “Beautiful Ruse,” “Eden” and “Psychedelic Daydreams.”
Denfeld Lip Dub 2025: “Crazy in Love”
Denfeld High School students marked the end of another school year by releasing the traditional lip-syncing video. This year’s production is set to Beyoncé’s 2003 hit song “Crazy in Love.” It was edited by Denfeld sophomore Tamia Bowles.
Grandma’s Marathon 2024 Double: Bad Grandmas
Eric Strand has been running what he calls the “Grandma’s Marathon Double” since 2012. The concept is simple: start at the marathon finish line, run to the starting line, then turn around and run the regular marathon. Strand’s crew in 2024 included Dusty Olson, who Strand refers to as “the OG Grandma’s Marathon Doubler.”
To Tell the Truth: Mayor Johnson and Mr. Magoo
Duluth Mayor George D. Johnson appeared on the CBS-TV show To Tell the Truth in an episode that aired May 31, 1965 — 60 years ago today. Mayor Johnson was the second of three characters/contestants introduced on the show. The concept of To Tell the Truth is that each character is accompanied by two imposters, and the three of them answer questions from a panel of celebrities who then try to guess which of the three is the authentic person. The Voyageurs Wolf Project has more than 350 trail cameras set up within in Voyageurs National Park, about 100 miles north of Duluth. Though the project is focused on understanding the summer ecology of wolves in the park, the cameras record all kinds of wildlife throughout the year. Lynx sightings are somewhat rare, and footage this good is truly rare.

Houseboat in the Harbor
It’s a sure sign of spring when Art and Beth Kidd’s solar-powered houseboat, the HMS Pontoon, finds its mooring in the Grand Marais Harbor. This is the 16th year of their short-but-significant pilgrimage.
The video, produced by Chuck Olsen, was shot in May 2024 and May 2025 for WTIP North Shore Community Radio.

“Cement” is the latest from the Duluth synth act EmbalmingEva. The musicians, Galalee Wright and Jesse Hatten, directed and shot the video.
Pronoya – “All for the Sun / Eclipse”
Pronoya has a seven-song EP coming out later this year. The band’s new music video features the tracks “All for the Sun” and “Eclipse.” The video was produced by Infinite Film Productions and features actor Joseph Langan.
Rafe Carlson – “Dirt Road to Heaven”
Hermantown native Rafe Carlson has a new single, “Dirt Road to Heaven.” The song is a tribute to his uncle, Jim Carlson, who died in January from glioblastoma brain cancer. The lyrics are all about hunting, fishing and growing up in northern Minnesota.
Rafe Carlson’s summer tour has him opening for country superstars Riley Green, Jon Pardi, Megan Moroney and more, with numerous stops in Wisconsin and Minnesota throughout May and June, including a performance at Rock the Bayfront in Duluth on June 21.
JamesG – “Winning Hand”
Former Duluthian James Geisler plays the cards he’s dealt in the video for his latest JamesG track, “Winning Hand.”
Lana Del Rey gives Duluth cold props
Last summer Lana Del Rey received the National Music Publishers’ Association Songwriter Icon award in Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center in New York City. Her acceptance speech included a brief mention of Duluth. (more…)
Wolf pack howling into the wintry darkness
The Peatland Pack, the largest pack of wolves in the Voyageurs National Park area, was caught on a trail camera this winter howling in chorus. The main wolf that is standing up howling in the clip is the breeding female of the pack, and three others show up on camera, but the pack is composed of at least nine wolves.
The video is from the Voyageurs Wolf Project, which is focused on understanding the ecology of wolves in the park.

Duluth native Emily Haavik has a new single, “If I Were a Ghost.” The acoustic video was shot by Charlie Steen.

The Slice: Warrior Printress
Warrior Printress Letterpress and Design is a Duluth print shop that uses new and old technology. Janelle Miller works a printing press that is more than 100 years old. Stacie Renné stacks letters into a frame one at a time while creating a new piece.

What’s the best way to get around on the 1000-foot Stewart J. Cort? Bicycle, of course. This video was shot in Silver Bay on March 31.
Sleeping Steel Giants
The Soo Locks, gateway to Lake Superior, opened March 21. The St. Lawrence Seaway’s 67th navigation season officially began March 25. The start of the Great Lakes shipping season is also the end of the period when cargo vessels are docked for maintenance and repairs. This aerial video offers views of the winter layups in Sturgeon Bay, Superior and Duluth.
Arctic Bound: Sailboat Nord Hus arrives in Grand Marais
The 36-foot sailboat Nord Hus cast off from the Knife River Marina near Two Harbors on March 31 with a crew of four and temperatures hovering around 11 degrees. The first stop on the journey was Grand Marais. Explorers Lonnie Dupre and Pascale Marceau and crew plan to sail the Nord Hus from Grand Marais through the Great Lakes to the St. Lawrence Seaway and follow the Canadian North Shore to Newfoundland, eventually reaching the arctic channel between Elsemere Island and Greenland. The crew will be conducting a variety of scientific observations in collaboration with global partners. (more…)
