Jambox – Tune it in
My 14-year old told me about this this weekend as we were walking the dog around the neighborhood. “There’s a video of a guy snowboarding off this wall, then down into the creek and into that tunnel.” We got an e-mail at PDD headquarters this morning with this link, sure enough, the last shot is just as my kid described. Produced by local clothing company Jambox and filmed at familiar sites all over Duluth.
Darin Bergsven – “Out of Nowhere”
A video shot while Darin Bergsven was recording his CD at Sacred Heart this spring. The CD will be available at shows, and he’s playing tomorrow morning, June 3, 10:30 am at Luce.

The grand opening is May 31.

Homegrown banners on PDD
I’m a little late this year, but here is the annual call. We’re looking for your Homegrown photos! The guidelines are the same as always. We’ll rotate Homegrown images in that extremely horizontal and hard-to-fit-a-photo-into space at the top of the page during next week’s festivities.
Stage Diving Mayors

I forgot to mark my calendar, but yesterday was Trampled by Turtles Day in both Duluth and Minneapolis. Here’s Don and RT Rybak crowd surfing at First Ave last night after making the proclamation.
Name that Goo
After digging out my car yesterday, I saw this yellow stuff that had dripped off of it into the snow. I also saw it in almost every spot in the street after cars drove away. I can’t imagine all the cars on our block are leaking antifreeze, or that tiny dogs snuck under each car to pee.
Anybody else see it or know what it is? Let the conspiracy theories begin.
Mu-Tron Love
The Current released Local Current, Vol 2 a few weeks ago. I couldn’t help but notice that someone in the art department there has a mutual appreciation for the Mu-Tron Phasor, an effects pedal from 40 years ago.
In last year’s Homegrown Field Guide ad, we Photoshopped up my Mu-tron Phasor. Someone at MPR has a better collection of vintage gizmos, they used the Mu-tron Phasor III. (more…)
Chester Bowl looking for stories
The Chester Bowl Improvement Group wants to hear from people who have been in the ski program.
From Thom Storm:
We are in the process of applying for different grants for our ski program. It was suggested that we have some Chester Bowl stories/testimonials to include with our applications. I would like to take that a step further, and have a Chester Bowl Stories section on our website, chesterbowl.org.
Many parents have told me that the ski program has made a big difference to their families. If you would like to share your story, we would like to post it on our site. Please send any stories/testimonials to:
chesterbowl@clearwire.net
and include your name for the posting.
If you’ve got any historical stories, photos or artifacts, you could submit them to the Chester Bowl History page.
Tangier 57 – “There is a World”
Tangier 57 would like to invite you to take a little trip.

Here it is, the annual gallery of local goods, submitted for your holiday shopping approval. If you’re going to get all material this Christmas, it might as well be local material, right?

So, the brouhaha over the ski jumps reminded me about this project – some historical photos from Chester Bowl. (more…)
Halloween banners
Who’s got groovy halloween photos? If you can crop them to ridiculously horizontal proportions and still see what’s going on in them, we want them!
We’re looking for Halloween banners to put at the top of PDD.
Some basic rules:
The image must be 960 pixels wide by 167 pixels high. The Perfect Duluth Day logo will be added by PDD’s art department.
The lower portion of banner photos serve as background to the navigation bar, so crop your image with that in mind. Make sure essential elements are not in the area that will be obscured.
If all of this is too much to wrap your head around, or you don’t have the right image editing software, just e-mail the uncropped photo, and we’ll do our best to crop it so it looks good.
Send them to banners@perfectduluthday.com.
Come visit PDD at FallFest

New Tangier 57 album now available
Our long-awaited Tiki Odyssey is now available in multiple musical formats. 18 tracks of Northwoods Exotica. Download it immediately from Bandcamp, or wait a day or so for a CD. There’s a big box of them driving around Duluth in a UPS truck right now. We should have them tonight.
The Local (5-6 pm Wednesday) on KUMD will be playing some tracks and talking to someone from T57 this week.
Vitta Pizza
A couple weeks ago, Vitta Pizza opened in Canal Park. It’s in the spot that Northern Lights Books used to be in, 307 Canal Park Drive. They cook the pizza in a wood-fired oven, and it’s pretty tasty.
