NorShor Needs & Assessment
The Playhouse and Westlake Reed Leskosky architects are holding needs and assessment surveys on the NorShor Theatre this week. Here’s your chance to chime in.
“If you are interested in having a voice, which we highly encourage you to do, please take some time to fill out this survey. Time is of the essence on this front as Westlake Reed Leskosky will be returning next week to conduct meetings with interested groups. The survey is available here: NorShor Programming Questionnaire.
To schedule a meeting time with the architechts to discuss and voice your opinions please send an email to norshorinfo@duluthplayhouse.org with your availability. We will be scheduling times between 8am and 6pm on January 25th and 26th.”
SkatRadioh at Ochre Ghost Gallery
Ochre Ghost Gallery · Saturday, January 22nd · 6-10PM
Local artist, David Moreira (SkatRadioh), is having a gallery showing of hand screen printed poster art.
It consists of the past two years of artwork promoting local and national bands + more. Graduating soon from the University of Minnesota, Duluth, this show marks an achievement as a student and a view of what’s to come in the future. Posters and artwork will be for sale at the opening. Plus music (unknown, but probably some kind of Mike Wilson something). David will also be demonstrating the screen print process during the opening.
If you haven’t been to Ochre Ghost, this should be a great show. It’s just up from Hippie Dick’s place. Ochre Ghost plans on hosting openings every two weeks. Every two weeks!

PSA: WikiLeaks [.info]
Just a heads up: if you’re looking for anything WikiLeaks, make sure you are NOT visiting WikiLeaks.info. That domain is owned and on a server whose IP space Spamhaus only sees hosting malware/virus software, botnet command and controls, phishing and other cybercriminal activities.
Seriously. Bad mojo. DO NOT download anything from WikiLeaks.info. And, as those wacky Russians are now experimenting with drive-by-malware and drive-by-DDoS, I would avoid that site entirely. (Yes, WikiLeaks.info even has a rebuttal against Spamhaus’ statement. Nice touch.)
Also: WikiLeaks.org is redirecting to those dastardly Russian spammers as well, so use the official IP address.
WikiLeaks IP address is: https://213.251.145.96.

Biggest Challenge for Journalists is Not Slanting Headlines
“Biggest challenge for Kozy fire victims is finding shelter for the long term.”
“Biggest challenge for Kozy fire victims is finding new housing.”
“Biggest challenge for Kozy fire victims is finding digs for this winter, and the future.”
“Biggest challenge for Kozy fire victims is finding new accommodations that fall within income and professional requirements, as well as meeting preferred geographical placement and/or a proximal bus lines and/or with parking (and Wi-Fi wouldn’t hurt).”
“Biggest challenge for Kozy fire victims is finding new “bad area” to set up cardboard boxes from which to commit [perceived] continued nefarious crimes and victimize the upstanding, white citizenry of Duluth.
Maybe it’s just me. Link to original story.

Dear Press Release Writers:
Please do not include the day’s date when making a press release. I know what day it is. My email tells me the date received. The file will even tell me the creation date, if I’m that interested. It is anachronistic, and it is superfluous information.
Some other modern press release style notes I made for a friend after the break:
Loud & Angry
“Councilor Kerry Gauthier said he plans to support the proposed ordinance, especially after witnessing the effects of K2 on a neighbor boy who ‘got loud and angry’ after smoking the stuff.”
Bonfire!
The Bonfire of Profanities is Friday night, Aug. 27. “Start time” is around 8:30 p.m. If things go sideways, meet at the Choo-Choo Bar. No bottles!
411 WI Point
So, I’m throwing a little shindig on Wisconsin Point Friday, Aug. 27. I have been hearing conflicting reports as to the current state of affairs regarding the 5-0 after dark on WI Point. Does anyone know what the setup is these days? I’ve heard they kick people out (a far cry from “you’re all of age, there’s no glass, you brought your own garbage bags – have a good night, folks!”); that they close the gates; and they have been known to tow cars. Anyone?
NorShor Sound and Door Help: Aug. 21
The Playhouse could use some volunteer sound engineers on the mezzanine for the Orpheum Theatre Centennial Celebration at the Historic NorShor Theatre on Saturday, Aug. 21. There will be a full system, so you need to know how to run a board and plug stuff in. Bonus if you know the acoustics of the mezzanine. Daytime 12-4PM and nighttime 8PM-2AM.
Also needed are a couple volunteer door / security volunteers. Nothing too heavy, just watching the stage door and back door and “keeping an eye on things.”
