I took the picture in 2005 just after other business had mostly cleared their stuff out and before Downtown expanded into that part of the building. Who was there before this?

Typically when someone mistakenly comments on the photo page we delete it to keep things from getting confusing, but this time we took longer than usual.
Oh! Wow!! Browsers N’Ect! Have to admit that I stopped in there a few times and paid by the minute to use their “high speed” connection. LOL. Good times!
I had an office in that building for about 10 years, and Browsers was my “meeting room.” Loved that place, even though the owners could be quite grouchy at times.
I miss the guys living in the basement. They checked the building every night to make sure it was secure and kept the place clean and safe for all of us office tenants. They were kind and quiet but down on their luck and both would otherwise have been homeless.
Yeah. Working there–and I did often–was like being a kid in a house with divorcing parents. You kept your head down and pretended you didn’t hear. Until one day when M. threw a glass mug out the front door onto Superior Street.
The Urban Ground/Orpheum was so smoky I think I shaved some years off my non-smoking life by hanging out in the window seat. Now whenever I think of it, I can’t help remembering that the proprietor was the kid who burned down Old Main. Many hours spent talking to some very interesting people. Richard One-tooth. Oh… and dammit. Can’t remember the name of the new age transvestite with the bear-claw necklace… who died. He was marvelous.

Ditto exactly what Claire said. I’d walk down with my empty cup and the owner would start my double espresso without me saying a word.
Had many meetings in the loft area, including a memorable one with Craig Minowa of Cloud Cult.
I have fond memories of Colder by the Lake shows and the experimental new music series when it was the Orpheum Café.
…Owner would start making double espresso, and then the spousal yelling.
During my years working at the NorShor it was the Dumas Hair Salon. (I guess I’m showing my age.)
