“Bernie the bobcat” released
Bernie the Bobcat was released today.

It was Bernie’s Big Day today. It’s been almost four months since Bernie came into rehab with a severe spinal bruise and unable to bear weight on his hind legs. He’s shown remarkable improvement, and is now able to catch any chipmunks who wander by, and to walk, jump, and run. Though he’s still a bit wobbly in his back end, total freedom, with more space to run, should fix that, says Dr. Deb. Officer Kristi Hansen and the Winbergs, all of whom saved his life, will be at his release to say farewell. Thanks to Wild and Free vets, who nursed him back to health, and to Tammy Quist Thies and The Wildcat Sanctuary, for being willing to give him a home if he didn’t recover enough for release. Everyone came together to save this beautiful bobcat, and now it’s time to celebrate!

Looks like a nice kitty, but he’d probably rip your fingers clean off if he had the chance. Still, I like the name Bernie. Wonder if he likes it too?
It’s standard practice among rehabilitators not to name wildlife. That undermines the _wild_ part of wildlife.
However, Bernie became a media darling and was named by someone outside the rehabilitator circle.

I love the look on his face–like “Nice knowin’ you — now let me the F#$K out of here!”
