It was the very first time we had hiked the Superior Hiking Trail with the littles, and boy, I can see why this is rated as a top hiking trail in the country. This portion of trail was rough and rugged - don’t try to bring strollers, folks. But it was so spectacular. The girls climbed up steep rock steps, and down bumpy overgrown root stretches, but they took it all in stride.

As you look at the photo, that’s the mighty Lake Superior you can see in the background (the direction the girls are facing). And, of course, the other big treat was where this trail led...to the unbelievably beautiful Baptism River High Falls.

The repetitive nature of hiking and the need to be aware of your footing causes one to spend a lot of time looking at the trail ahead. On this last trip I kept noticing mushrooms. I don’t know anything about them, but I thought this one looked cool.
