Every single day I am pushed to (always nearly, sometimes past) my breaking point. They tell you it’s hard and it doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface. Everything you want and everything you need (even eating, or having to pee) is put on hold for someone else. There are (many) days I want to tap out. Take a brake. Go for a walk. But you can’t. There is your job. So you learn to stop. And you learn to breathe. And you learn to slow down and see what they are seeing. And suddenly you realize that youre the best, and the calmest version of yourself that you’ve ever known. And that every minute of lost sleep is worth it. Every butt wipe that isn’t your own, every unknown substance on your shirt, every night stayed in, every minute of “work” or emails you failed to complete, every thigh-high pile of laundry, every feeling of alienation, every google search or phone call or guessing what you should do and guessing you’d done it wrong... it’s all so worth it. All I can do is try to give them just a piece of what they’ve given me. All I can do is love them, unconditionally. I think that’s enough. I hope that’s enough.".
